2021 Dynasty/Fantasy SUBSCRIBER Training Camp News, Notes, Rumors, Commentary 8/11/2021 (Ehlinger, Darden, Pitts and more)
-- You’ve seen the news blurbs about Sam Ehlinger taking some 1st-team reps for Indy? As I said prior, and I’ll re-state it plainly…unless the Colts make some massive trade for a QB (which I don’t believe) – then Ehlinger is going to start Week 1, because Jacob Eason sucks.
Winners of this change of QB situation?
Parris Campbell = Ehlinger is a smart short passing game worker, and he can use Parris as his pitch & catch slot WR.
Jonathan Taylor = A lot of things are not good for Taylor, but Ehlinger over Eason is helpful not hurtful through this.
Loser…probably Michael Pittman, if they use him as a medium-deep guy only. Ehlinger is a very weak deep ball thrower. He is much better from 10 yards and in.
-- Thursday 8/12, my annual sit-down 3+ hour podcast discussion with The Podfather, Matt Kelley will drop on iTunes and wherever else you get podcasts from (we’ll post a link of it when it is up).
One of the many discussions we had but one we didn’t linger too much on, and I didn’t push it either – is how high to bet on Kyle Pitts for FF. Matt does not feel Pitts is worth taking for a very logical reason – because the history of rookie TE production.
I would have countered with the obvious counterpoint of: but Kyle Pitts is special and unique and going to break all past myths, so the past doesn’t matter to me…there has never been a TE like Pitts, a modern-era freak of nature.
Neither argument is wrong…well, one will be in the end.
There is no obvious answer. The FF TE history does favor anti-Pitts but we’re in an era where we get shocked by the instant performance of rookie Justin Herbert or rookie Justin Jefferson. Why not Pitts? I mean, have you seen him play?
Chase Pitts if you’d like…avoid because of the past rookie TE history, if you desire. No one is crazy in either theory.
I want to ‘go for it’ with Pitts, where I can…and then correct it if it becomes an issue.
-- Two interesting notes from the depth chart releases from the last 24 hours (interesting to me)…
1) Nico Collins is listed as a starter already. I assumed/hoped/thought as much from post-Draft, but it’s good to see it officially this early.
2) Scotty Miller is listed as the 2nd-team WR to Mike Evans. That’s no news. But…
Jaelon Darden named 2nd-team WR behind Antonio Brown…that’s big news for Darden’s status. Bruce Arians has been chirping for months about Darden…how he’s like Antonio Brown, and here he is the backup to an old, mentally risky, but talented Antonio Brown – Darden is one Brown misstep away from being the slot WR for Tom Brady. Wow! Big valuation jump coming in the Dynasty Rookie Draft rankings.
