2021 Preseason Week 2 Wrap Up: Two Subscriber Extra Notes (Colts and Saints related)…

2021 Preseason Week 2 Wrap Up: Two Subscriber Extra Notes (Colts and Saints related)…

I wanted to discuss two items/players as I wrap up all my Week 2 viewings and writings (and here comes Week 3 tomorrow)…

#1) I’m back in on Taysom Hill as the starter Week 1…with confidence.

I figured the public pressure of Jameis Winston’s Marquez Callaway bailout/gift on MNF Week 2 preseason would catapult him to possibly starting Week 1. I was 99% sure Taysom was starting the season at QB a week ago, but after the MNF event last week (including the TEs getting hurt)…I was falling to a 50/50 concern between him and Winston.

But my sources remain strong on – Taysom Hill is Sean Payton’s guy to start for the Saints.

The next round of projections will see Taysom boosted back up after a drop in the latest ones.

FYI, after the MNF game with Winston starting and having the two miraculous Callaway TDs…the Saints practices since then have had Taysom Hill running the 1st-team like normal every practice, like they’ve had since camp opened.

Don’t be surprised if an NFL team loses their franchise QB to injury Weeks 1-2…and the Saints flip Winston to that team in a sucker’s bet for a high draft pick in return. Given the high Winston is on with the media right now – I wouldn’t let Winston play Week 3 of the preseason. Leave on a high note.

#2) I’m starting to see something with Colts rookie WR Mike Strachan. Like something ‘big’ (but not for right now/FF).

I knew he was a top athlete – 6’5”/226, 4.54 40-time, 6.96 three-cone, 20 bench reps. I had scouted him in the summer of 202 and saw there was something there – but he took off 2020 for COVID and we didn’t have as many things/tape/etc. to go off of for him going into NFL Draft scouting 2021. I could only speculate how his D3 career (of dominance) would translate to the NFL, and how fast it might occur. Well, he is starting to look like the Colts most talented WR…he and Michael Pittman.

I don’t know a lot of things here…

I don’t know how fast they’ll push him…they will start Campbell-Pittman-Hilton in 2021. It shouldn’t be long before he supplants Hilton…or Campbell (but Strachan is not a slot WR…actually, Strachan looks like a #1 WR to me…like a tall Stefon Diggs). But if Hilton gets hurt…or Pittman – Strachan may dispatch Zach Pascal and become an emerging option in 2021.

I don’t know how ready Strachan is to face top NFL DBs…he might need another year baking in the oven.

I don’t know if the Colts will ever push T.Y. Hilton aside.

What I do know is – Strachan is starting to feel like one of the 2-3-4 best WRs in this draft class. That’s what I’m starting to see, but he may need a full year of growth/learning to show the public/us. If you missed him in the Dynasty Rookie Draft, now is the time to work him into the deal as a mild throw-in value.
