2022 Best Ball Mock Draft (28 Rounds, FFPC rules)

FFPC rules = the biggest difference in this format is TEs get 1.5 PPR pts catch and you have two flex (RB-WR-TE) to fill each week, in this 28-round event.

Why FFPC? It’s the (a) one I see people use the most, (b) the one I recommend to people because I have spoken with the owner on a couple of occasions, been podcast interviewed by him years ago -- and he’s a good, trustworthy guy who loves the spot (of Fantasy). There may be other trusted BB sites, I don’t know…I don’t physically use the platforms -- but I can give you a thumb’s up on the FFPC format/company, for what it is worth.

OK, 28 rounds, broken into blocks of seven…and using the FantasyPros draft platform because I have advanced controls on it. There is not a specific TE bonus option to change in this system, but I jacked the ‘TE value’ to the highest setting to accommodate for it and it still came up a little short so I tried to not take advantage of the gap in this draft…I faded the TE on purpose.

1.10 = Ja’Marr Chase…I bypassed Mixon, Swift and went for the ‘biggest play’ guy of the remaining group, maybe the biggest play/scoring upside guy of the 1st-round.

2.03 = Tyreek Hill…bypassed Saquon and Swift to take another big play, spike scoring weapon. I’ll take the ace WRs and fade RBs in Best Ball, as a preference.

*Note, Kyle Pitts was available at this pick but in real FFPC, he’d be gone already so I purposefully ignored. I got the A.I. draft logic jacked up to the max for tight ends but it’s not quite hot enough in this FantasyPros system. I plan to take my value TEs in a bit. With a 1.5 PPR bonus on TEs in FFPC formats, you gotta up your game on the TEs.

3.10 = James Conner…surprisingly here, thanks to TEs going faster off the board. I’ll have at least this one real #1 RB in a backfield. Going to go for Dillon-Penny-CPatt types ahead, hoping their situations spring them to #1 RB status, and RB1 status.

4.03 = Justin Herbert = I feel like I can take a gamble here and go for a top level QB.

5.10 = A.J Dillon…and I’ll pray Aaron Jones goes away for the full AJD effect.

6.03 = Rashaad Penny…and I hope Cord Patterson is available next pick.

7.10 = Cordarrelle Patterson…I like taking Patterson back here because I plan to take Allgeier in a bit too.

ROSTER (so far)

QB: Herbert (8)

RB: Conner (13), Dillon (14)

RB: Penny (11), Patterson (14)

WR: Chase (10)

WR: Tyreek (11)

TE: Knox (7)

DST:

PK:

--------------------------------------------

8.03 = Dawson Knox…I gotta get one TE1 hopeful of have high confidence in.

9.10 = Allen Lazard…great value here.

10.03 = Kadarius Toney…going for the big play WR trio of Lazard-Toney-MVS for Best ball, I hope.

11.10 = Trey Lance…MVS and DJ Chark, two guys I wanted were taken in front of me. Need to get settled/stronger at QB anyway.

12.03 = Zach Ertz…if they are just gonna gimme him here, I’ll take it.

13.10 = Darrell Williams…to backstop Conner.

14.03 = Evan Engram…my favorite undervalued TE. Can use as a flex if needed.

15.10 = Albert Okwuegbunam…TEs are the best assets remaining right now. In real FFPC they’d probably go 1-4 rounds higher than this on Ertz-Albert O.-Engram. Maybe.

ROSTER (so far)

QB: Herbert (8), Lance (9)

RB: Conner (13), Dillon (14), Darrell Williams (13)

RB: Penny (11), Patterson (14)

WR: Chase (10), Lazard (14)

WR: Tyreek (11), Toney (9)

TE: Knox (7), Ertz (13), Engram (11), Albert O. (9)

DST:

PK:

--------------------------------------------

16.03 = Isaiah McKenzie…just wanted to be sure to get him. My last real thing I wanted to get.

17.10 = Evan McPherson…getting on top kickers before others

18.03 = LA Chargers DST…I can’t believe the GB DST went early. Gotta adjust for that. I want GB-LAC or GB-CAR in Best Ball.

19.10 = Curtis Samuel…taking a flier on a high upside talent but man he cannot stay healthy in Washington.

20.03 = Carolina DST…to pair with the Chargers, but not as good as a GB-CAR pairing.

21.10 = Marcus Mariota…my favorite 4pts per pass TD sleeper QB. A legit QB1 hope, in 4pts.

ROSTER (so far)

QB: Herbert (8), Lance (9), Mariota (14)

RB: Conner (13), Dillon (14), Darrell Williams (13)

RB: Penny (11), Patterson (14)

WR: Chase (10), Lazard (14), McKenzie (7)

WR: Tyreek (11), Toney (9), C. Samuel (14)

TE: Knox (7), Ertz (13), Engram (11), Albert O. (9)

DST: LAC-DST (8), CAR-DST (13)

PK: McPherson (10)

--------------------------------------------

22.03 = Matt Gay…got a top kicking combo

23.10 = David Johnson…running out of RBs, so I’m taking the one late-round/off-the-grid option who could be signed into an RB1 situation off of a sudden emergency/injury situation.

24.03 = Trestan Ebner…I messed around with other non-RB things too much and left myself with limited options for deep sleeper RBs. Kicking myself I didn’t get Pacheco.

25.10 = Calvin Austin…now taking the best ‘weapon’/big play WRs (or any position) out there.

26.03 = Kyle Philips…Starting slot WR down this deep, you take it.

27.10 = Donald Parham…This could wind up one of the great values of this draft. I am getting way more words/messages on Parham…than Everett or McKitty this offseason.

28.03 = Demetric Felton…there’s like nothing left. If Hunt is ditched by CLE, maybe Felton sees some backfield time…or maybe he gets into a slot role over Bell.

ROSTER (FINAL)

QB: Herbert (8), Lance (9), Mariota (14)

RB: Conner (13), Dillon (14), Darrell Williams (13), Ebner (14)

RB: Penny (11), Patterson (14), D. Johnson (?)

WR: Chase (10), Lazard (14), McKenzie (7), Austin (9), Felton (9)

WR: Tyreek (11), Toney (9), C. Samuel (14), Philips (6)

TE: Knox (7), Ertz (13), Engram (11), Albert O. (9), Parham (8)

DST: LAC-DST (8), CAR-DST (13)

PK: McPherson (10), Gay (7)

Regrets… ;(

I shoulda took one more QB and 1-2 less WRs.

I shoulda took Allgeier around rounds 12-14. I shoulda took Pacheco around rounds 16-18. I didn’t do a good job at RB…considering I can’t fix RB breakdowns on the fly like in redraft, and get fresh ones off waivers – I’m stuck with them here. I should have been more cautious not to get sucked in by all the WR values too much. I can’t have them all. I’ll just say I ‘allowed it’ for a teaching moment.

I had to lean on TEs given the TE bonus, but I could used that TE room to lessen my WR count/need…since the TEs can work as Flex just fine.

Got a grade ‘D’…last place projection. Oh, no! I’m so sad ;)
