*Lots of games to cover and moving faster than editors can keep up with, so forgive any typos, etc. 2,000+ word articles on preseason games ain’t easy. Going for quantity over quality to get the news out ASAP.
The Lions and Bills played a Week 4 preseason game, and…honestly…this may be a first — I can’t think of much to write about it. They gave me like nothing here. Let me try to spin some low key gold…
Fantasy player notes…
— Jonathan Williams (10-53-1) was dropped from the team via a stunner from Stone Cold Sean McDermott – who saw that coming? Where were all the beat writers? Too busy telling us what a sleeper Williams was.
So who is the LeSean McCoy handcuff? Hell if I know.
Mike Tolbert was my dark horse pick all along, but even I didn’t think it would be true. I’d say he’s probably in the lead.
Joe Banyard (14-68-1, 2-17-0/2) is scrappy and can work in a pinch.
Taiwan Jones (5-48-0) is just sitting there as well…somehow he snuck onto the roster and Williams is gonzo.
Who is the McCoy handcuff? Any of these three guys depending on the situation.
The real answer might be – none. The real handcuff is on a practice squad right now.
I want to give Stone Cold McDermott a high-five for all these stone cold moves, but I see a lot of players cut and dumped via trade that I agree with…but I don’t see many savvy waiver wire pickups. If McDermott was a guru or if I was secretly running the Bills, you know what QB we would have picked up and he’d be starting by Week 5 – Kyle Sloter. All things come back to Sloter.
If I were truly running the Bills, I would have claimed Travis Rudolph, Kyle Sloter, Bucky Hodges, Cap Capi, and Austin Carr. I would have rostered them in claim…not just put on P-Squad. You want proof I’m not running this or any team…follow the Sloter. And, if I were running the Vikings…there would be a different head coach.
My FF-advice: Don’t waste your time trying to figure out the McCoy handcuff. Invest in Samaje Perine or Jamaal Charles or Rex Burkhead – try to get an ROI from your roster.
— I thought for a second, Nathan Peterman (9-11 for 81 yards, 0 TD/0 INT) might be starting Week 1, but it looks like Tyrod. Stone Cold wants Peterman…so it won’t be long. That’s why I discount Jordan Matthews and Zay Jones at this point, even though I love them as players…Tyrod isn’t a great passer and Nathan Peterman is not ready for this.
Like it or not, Peterman is coming soon to a field near you.
— Lions WR Tion Green (4-87-1/4) had a nice stat line. However, ‘Nothing to see here’.
— Bills DL Eddie Yarborough (4 tackles, 1 TFL) keeps standing out with effort and quality play every week as does DB Trae Elson(4 tackles). While Reggie Ragland was traded away for a bucket of spit…these two guys ‘efforted’ their way to an NFL roster.
I’m guessing Nick Saban won’t advertise that on recruiting trips…
— A lot of people are wanting to take the Bills over the Jets this week in survivor pools – I can’t do it. I’d bet the Bills to win if my life depended on it. Not sure if I’d lay -9.0 to the Jets. The Bills are 9.0 favorites over another team!? Wow. How bad are the Jets? Don’t answer.
‘Are the Bills any good’ is the real question.
