NFL Combine Weigh-In Notes (RB, QB, OL)…
Notes on the fly from the 2017 NFL Combine weigh-in and first measurements. Notes on WR-TE and all defensive prospect weigh-ins will post throughout the weekend. Friday 3/3/17, we’ll open up our live commentary for the Combine at 9 am here on CFM…and will do so each day of the 2017 Combine.
— Leonard Fournette coming in at 240 pounds. Wow. When I heard about it, I was wondering if he was 6’1″/6’2″ to go along with…no, he’s 6’0″ on the button. This got me to wondering what RBs might have had similar profiles at around 6’0″/240. A few comments on some of the names that I see in our database…
Jonathan Stewart was 5’11″/235 at his NFL Combine, and he ran a 4.46 and produced some of the best Combine numbers I’ve ever seen…considering his size.
Le’Veon Bell was 6’1.3″/244 at his NFL Combine with incredible agility times for his size – a 6.75 three-cone. However, Bell didn’t thrive in the NFL until he cut weight. Ditto for 5’11.6/235 Carlos Hyde.
LeGarrette Blount 6’0.4″/241 is the closest measurement match to Fournette’s 6’0″/240. Blount ran a 4.70 40-time, not bad for his size…but not top 10 in the draft worthy.
The question for Fournette is – what will his measurables be? We see ‘240’ and we instantly think this is a problem. It might be, but we won’t know until the speed-agility times are in. If he runs a 4.40-4.49 with sub-7.0 three-cone at 240 pounds…he becomes a mythical creature. If he runs a 4.65+ and 7.15+ three-cone…the prospect walls will come crumbling down a bit – you’d have to question his heart and IQ to throw away millions because of ’10 pounds’. I get he’s been hurt and rehabbing, but this Combine event is a huge ordeal and he can’t let himself come in at 2014 if that slows him down on the drills.
My first thought about the ‘240’ is, like many…”this isn’t good.” But that sentiment could change in a heartbeat when I see how fast and yoked up he is at that weight. He looks in great shape.
If he skips the timing drills tomorrow his draft stock is going to start sliding.
— D’Onta Foreman is a big boy at running back, and supposedly weighed 240+ at times with Texas — and he came in 6’0″/233 at the Combine…same height as Fournette, but seven pounds less. This further jolts me on Fournette’s 240. It also gets me thinking Foreman is prime position to make his move up the draft board into the first round potentially.
— Player of interest Tarik Cohen came in at 5’6″/179, which was expected, but surprisingly had the second largest hands of any RB prospect at Indy this year – 10 1/8″. That’s going to help his case for the next level.
— Wyoming’s Brian Hill takes a small hit to his draft stock coming in with 8 7/8″ hands…as does Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer, also with 8 7/8″ hands. Kizer is a complete fraud of an NFL prospect. Some analysts still have him as their #1 quarterback for 2017, unbelievable. *Kizer has 9 7/8 hands not 8 7/8″ as we first reported.
— Mitch Trubisky hits the magic mark – 6’2.1″/222. He also came in fine with 9.5″ hands. I’m telling you ‘they’ are going to try to tear down his draft stock…but it won’t work. He’s taken media hits from the get-go and yet has moved to #2 on most mock drafts…begrudgingly to football analysts. I think it’s because the scouts know he’s the real deal, and thus analysts know that means he’s going near the top of the draft…whether they like it or not. Mocking Trubisky #20-40 overall is/was nonsensical by football people.
I pray for him that he does not, but I maintain that he’s going #1 to Cleveland before this is all said and done.
— Pitt OT prospect Adam Bisnowaty…6’5″/304 with massive 11 3/8″ hands.
— Alabama OT Cam Robinson coming in with 35.5″ arm length is a big feather in his scouting cap.
