2019 Dynasty-Fantasy Football Preseason Notes (8/23) *Subscriber Extra Notes (MIA-JAX Wk3)…
OK, here’s my bonus, frank talk on Preston Williams…
He might be awesome. He might be a superstar. I’ve been growing from ignore to like to love…and this game with no catches on two targets was the clincher. I’m in love.
Williams had two targets in this game…
1) He lined up on the left versus A.J. Bouye (a top NFL corner), and ran a route smoothly with sharp cut to the left sideline and got himself open like a high-end NFL WR against a high-end NFL corner…but Ryan Fitzpatrick threw the ball too far to the sidelines and it was uncatchable. Williams was open, impressively so.
2) Later, he lined up on the right versus Jalen Ramsey (arguably THEE top corner in the NFL). He made a subtle move off the snap and sprung free going deep and Fitzpatrick underthrew it or he might have booked a 50+ yard TD on Ramsey.
Here’s the thing…Ramsey was up tight on him, and Ramsey is one of the faster players in the NFL…Williams stutter stepped and then sprinted deep and had Ramsey beat by 2-3 yards in an instant. Williams’ 4.61 40-time Pro Day…I don’t even want to think about it/consider it anymore. That’s not a 4.61+ guy I see on the field in the NFL the past 3+ weeks.
In this game that was deemed a disappointment for Williams by box score scouts…I’m about convinced Preston Williams is a potential superstar.
Rotoworld is doing us a HUGE favor on Williams the next week+ of drafting. From their ‘game notes’ today on Williams, they said…
-- ‘failed to track a poorly thrown Ryan Fitzpatrick deep ball’…a statement which should be subject to a lawsuit. Williams beat Ramsey by 2-3+ yards and Fitz threw a pass 5-7+ yards short like a wounded duck. It was so bad Ramsey had to slow down to try to catch the gift (he missed). Williams couldn’t possibly have adjusted to go make this catch. It’s insanity to knock Williams for this subtly…but thank you, Rotoworld $9 an hour or unpaid intern football note writer!
-- ‘Williams saw some run with the first-team’…Ummm, he was THE GUY. He was in on most every play with the 1st-team. While others rotated in and out, Williams was there about every snap. On a single WR set…Williams was the lone WR.
Miami will probably go Parker-Stills-Wilson, because NFL teams are run by mostly morons who adhere to ‘draft stock’ and ‘what the media thinks’, but Williams would likely rotate in a lot in Week 1 and by Week 3-4 he’ll be the guy. That’s unless Miami is not moronic, and they ditch Parker and go with Williams straight away. I think it is possible. Credit to the Miami staff…they have been pushing Williams since Week 1 of the preseason…with the 1st-team QB and 1st-team offense. Williams has been so dominant and so looked-for by the QBs…if he isn’t starting Week 1, I don’t know why there is a preseason. But if he doesn’t start, do not despair…it’s coming soon.
-- ‘He still appears poised to crack the 53-man roster’…If he doesn’t make the 53-man roster, I quit analyzing football because it’s futile and run by idiots. I’ll go head up the fantasy division of the XFL. Williams could start Week 1 or not…but his roster status is in ZERO question. But thanks again Rotoworld for dropping this gem on the masses!!!
It’s possible Williams starts Week 1, if not soon after. One other thing to note on that – Fitzpatrick starting with him would be huge! Williams is the kinda big ‘go get it’ receiver Fitz works towards (and has this preseason). Kenny Stills? Gimme a break.
Williams is a star prospect and the QBs seem to know this already by the way they have treated him, looked for him in these games. No catches here? Of course Fitz is not going to push his luck against Bouye and Ramsey.
I’m going all-in. Taking him late in redrafts, taking in Dynasty Rookie Drafts, and in drafts that have already happened…I’m going after him RIGHT NOW while Rotoworld is helping discount the price.
