2020 Dynasty Rookie Mock Draft, Five Rounds With Commentary (from the 1.12 spot)

2020 Dynasty Rookie Mock Draft, Five Rounds With Commentary (from the 1.12 spot)

1st-Round (pick 1.12)

Well, my final go-round in this series…the DRD from the #12 spot, meaning I won my league title last year! I’m likely going to stick to my back-end play of drafting Denzel Mims and then hoping Bryan Edwards falls to my 2nd pick.

Again, Joe Burrow is an option if you are weak at QB and/or are overloaded at young WR.

…or, if you just believe in Burrow strongly and want to pass on taking on more young WRs to your roster (that you rightly suspect you can get in a cheaper deal later) – with that thinking, making the ‘choice’ for Burrow is plenty logical. The guy put up the greatest season of any college QB that I’ve ever witnessed. Mahomes…Murray…Lamar…Mayfield…they cannot touch what Burrow did in 2020. In the end, Burrow may be the single best player to come out of this rookie (and NFL) draft.

At 1.11 we did a Denzel Mims path. With this 1.12 let’s be different and honor Burrow with this choice.

1.1 Jonathan Taylor

1.2 D'Andre Swift

1.3 C. Edwards-Helaire

1.4 CeeDee Lamb

1.5 J.K. Dobbins

1.6 Tua Tagovailoa

1.7 Jalen Reagor

1.8 Jerry Jeudy

1.9 Ke'Shawn Vaughn

1.10 Cam Akers

1.11 Justin Jefferson

1.12 Joe Burrow

2nd-Round (pick 2.12)

Dang it! Edwards went right before my pick. Dems da breaks picking #12 spot…

I’m looking at Claypool, Duvernay, Josh Kelley as best available. No need to consider Justin Herbert, as we just went Burrow before.

When in doubt, in the Year of Our Lord 2020, take the RB…to use/trade…fade the WR as something you can acquire later or have plenty of already…

I take Joshua Kelley here. Maybe Duvernay will fall to me 3rd-round?

2.1 Henry Ruggs III

2.2 Denzel Mims

2.3 Tee Higgins

2.4 M. Pittman

2.5 Brandon Aiyuk

2.6 Justin Herbert

2.7 L. Shenault

2.8 Zack Moss

2.9 A.J. Dillon

2.10 A. McFarland

2.11 Bryan Edwards

2.12 Joshua Kelley

3rd-Round (pick 3.12)

No Duvernay, no nothing I’m fired up about available…except Jalen Hurts. Yeah, I already got Burrow…but I’d take Hurts here because, as I keep saying, he can be a top fantasy scored in a finger snap if he’s forced into the lineup because of injury. All my other options to choose from right here…none can really claim that here.

But to be different, let’s say Burrow maxed me out on an appetite to take another QB. Now, what would I do? I know I can take Joe Reed and Colby Parkinson 4th-5th, as I usually do. So, what would be best to go for here and now if not Hurts?

I don’t believe in Van Jefferson for fantasy/with the Rams any time soon. He’s a wasted pick to me.

I’m not a huge Eno Benjamin guy.

I like DeeJay Dallas OK, but I don’t know that he’ll even make the team.

I like Donovan Peoples-Jones, but I can wait 2-6 months and get him for nothing.

I’m going to go with Lamical Perine here, even though I have no belief in him at all – but he might be a Le’Veon injury away from mattering…and I will try to trade him to the Le’Veon owner a minute after I make this pick. If I own Le’Veon, then easy enough choice here.

3.1 Antonio Gibson

3.2 Darrynton Evans

3.3 Chase Claypool

3.4 A. Gandy-Golden

3.5 KJ Hamler

3.6 Jordan Love

3.7 Lynn Bowden Jr.

3.8 Devin Duvernay

3.9 Cole Kmet

3.10 Tyler Johnson

3.11 Adam Trautman

3.12 Lamical Perine

4th-Round (pick 4.12)

Joe Reed or Darnell Mooney -- pick your poison. I like both, but I tend to default to Reed for his runner skills and size/profile. I’ll go Reed again here.

4.1 Jalen Hurts

4.2 Eno Benjamin

4.3 Van Jefferson

4.4 D. Peoples-Jones

4.5 Devin Asiasi

4.6 Jacob Eason

4.7 Albert Okwuegbunam

4.8 DeeJay Dallas

4.9 Quintez Cephus

4.10 Raymond Calais

4.11 Gabriel Davis

4.12 Joe Reed

5th-Round (pick 5.12)

I’ll end it like I’ve ended most of these mocks…the one guy late I can see be great in the future, or immediately if injuries force him to the starter’s role…but he himself is injured and may start the season on PUP or just ‘redshirt’ 2020. I really like TE Colby Parkinson long-term, but I also know he’ll be pretty available after the draft as well.

If you’d rather try a Michael Warren or Salvon Ahmed or Cole McDonald gamble…and get Parkinson later, that’s cool.

5.1 Brycen Hopkins

5.2 Isaiah Hodgins

5.3 Darnell Mooney

5.4 Quez Watkins

5.5 Dalton Keene

5.6 James Proche

5.7 Harrison Bryant

5.8 K.J. Hill

5.9 Isaiah Coulter

5.10 John Hightower

5.11 James Robinson

5.12 Colby Parkinson
