2021 Devy Prospect Previews: DTs Dante Stills (West Virginia) and DE Dante Stills (West Virginia)
Devy Disclaimer: I only take a quick look at some game tape and review background data on each prospect – it’s a very preliminary look that I could change my mind on with deeper study a year later when these prospects do hit the college all-star bowl games and work the NFL Combine and Pro Days. I don’t have all the data, today, that I need/want for a comprehensive scouting and I’m not taking anywhere near a full amount of time to tape preview -- I’m giving a knee jerk scouting reaction from a basic intro to the player. The good news is…I’m better at this (scouting) than anyone in the world, so my quick eye test is better than the echo chamber’s/football media’s studies – so, I’m your best hope for an initial preview…but don’t write any of this in stone…it’s early with limited data and a whole season of info/tape/data to come on these guys.
DE Dante Stills (West Virginia)
2019: 26 total tackles, 14.0 TFLs, 8.0 sacks (11g)
Preview Grade = B+
He and his brother Darius make up a sick tandem of D-Lineman for West Virginia…two legit NFL prospects, maybe both 1st-round prospects. Stills has the size of an NFL 4-3 DT but plays DE (mostly) for West Virginia…and he works like a legit EDGE rusher. He’s a force of power and speed as an end, but we can only (delightfully) imagine what damage he’ll do as a 4-3 DT with his size/speed. Possible Aaron Donald talk is likely.
Reminds me of: Has some Aaron Donald in him.
DT Darius Stills (West Virginia)
2019: 43 total tackles, 12.0 TFLs, 6.0 sacks (12g)
Preview Grade = B
Darius’s brother Dante is the ‘wow’ of the two 1st-round potential prospects for the NFL…Dante is cut/ripped (physically) and plays college D-End in the body size of an NFL DT. Brother Darius here is really good in his own right, but has the body of a sloppy-looking (big bellied) DT/NT…but the looks will fool you here, because Darius is cat quick for a big man in the middle.
Reminds me of: Khalil Davis…Combine star, U. of Nebraska draft pick of Tampa Bay in 2020. Probably not as athletic as Davis, but a better motor/producer potentially.
