2021 Devy Prospect Previews: Montana State Duo QB Tucker Rovig and RB Isaiah Ifanse
Devy Disclaimer: I only take a quick look at some game tape and review background data on each prospect – it’s a very preliminary look that I could change my mind on with deeper study a year later when these prospects do hit the college all-star bowl games and work the NFL Combine and Pro Days. I don’t have all the data, today, that I need/want for a comprehensive scouting and I’m not taking anywhere near a full amount of time to tape preview -- I’m giving a knee jerk scouting reaction from a basic intro to the player. The good news is…I’m better at this (scouting) than anyone in the world, so my quick eye test is better than the echo chamber’s/football media’s studies – so, I’m your best hope for an initial preview…but don’t write any of this in stone…it’s early with limited data and a whole season of info/tape/data to come on these guys.
QB Tucker Rovig (Montana State)
2019: 61.6%, 1,969 yards, 15 TDs/5 INTs (13g)
Preview Grade = C
I was scouting another Montana State player on offense, when I was instantly attracted to watching their QB. Go look up his tape or Montana State highlights and tell me Tucker Rovig is not the spitting image of Tom Brady from look, jersey, style, pre-snap, etc. Not saying he has the same talent or drive, but he looks a lot like young Tom Brady physically and technique wise.
I would also say, from just a preview, he’s a damn good-looking FCS talent/NFL prospect. The NFL will probably look right past him, but I hope to take a more serious look after the 2020 season to see how well he developed in a year.
Reminds me of: Tom Brady…but not sure ‘how good’ yet.
RB Isaiah Ifanse (Montana State)
2019: 126-825-6 rush, 4-41-0 rec. (11g)
Preview Grade = D+
Scrappy, savvy interior runner. Again, I was scouting another player when I saw Rovig (above) and then Ifanse catching my attention. It’s no wonder Montana State outscored their opponents 32.7 to 22.1, going 11-4 and making it the FCS playoff semifinals (losing to eventual champions North Dakota State).
I think Ifanse has a little something to offer the NFL as a fringe/scrapper runner that can be had as a UDFA…if anyone pays attention. Montana State has some pretty nice weapons going into the 2020 season.
Reminds me of: Like an Eno Benjamin or JaMycal Hasty type of Devonta Freeman-esque style.
