2021 Devy Prospect Previews: RBs Zamir White (Georgia) and Jaret Patterson (Buffalo)

Devy Disclaimer: I only take a quick look at some game tape and review background data on each prospect – it’s a very preliminary look that I could change my mind on with deeper study a year later when these prospects do hit the college all-star bowl games and work the NFL Combine and Pro Days. I don’t have all the data, today, that I need/want for a comprehensive scouting and I’m not taking anywhere near a full amount of time to tape preview -- I’m giving a knee jerk scouting reaction from a basic intro to the player. The good news is…I’m better at this (scouting) than anyone in the world, so my quick eye test is better than the echo chamber’s/football media’s studies – so, I’m your best hope for an initial preview…but don’t write any of this in stone…it’s early with limited data and a whole season of info/tape/data to come on these guys.

RB Zamir White (Georgia) *rSOPH

6’0”/215

2019: 78-408-3 rush, 2-20-0 rec. (12g)

Preview Grade = C

Good straight-line speed, good build (sleek/muscular)…but really poor agility and/or ability to dodge tacklers between the tackles. Once he starts going sideways…he’s in trouble. I’m not a fan of what I saw (his big chance/game vs. Baylor in their bowl game…was a backup otherwise in 2019).

I will allow for some grace – White is coming off an ACL, barely had played last season, and then was thrown in as a starter for a bowl game against a very good Baylor defense/team. He might have a bunch of upside…but I didn’t see ‘it’ looking at his 2019 work.

Reminds me of: Miles Sanders or lesser Miles Sanders…both versions of whom are average (or worse) NFL RB talents at best.

RB Jaret Patterson (Buffalo) *JR

5’9”/195

2019: 312-1,799-19, 13-209-1 rec. (13g)

Preview Grade = D

I saw nothing here. Watched him against Penn State and he was totally out of his league (23-71-0). He ran all over mediocre/bad MAC teams and got a lot of carries to tally numbers…but talent-wise, he’s a UDFA RB talent. No great speed and poor agility/not shifty. Wrong size for the NFL. Nothing sticks out here as ‘good’.

Reminds me of: Pick a 2020 UDFA RB who was smaller, good in college, and will never sniff a real NFL role…like Malcolm Perry or J.J. Taylor.
