2021 Devy Prospect Previews: SAF Hamsah Nasirildeen (Florida St) and Caden Sterns (Texas)

Devy Disclaimer: I only take a quick look at some game tape and review background data on each prospect – it’s a very preliminary look that I could change my mind on with deeper study a year later when these prospects do hit the college all-star bowl games and work the NFL Combine and Pro Days. I don’t have all the data, today, that I need/want for a comprehensive scouting and I’m not taking anywhere near a full amount of time to tape preview -- I’m giving a knee jerk scouting reaction from a basic intro to the player. The good news is…I’m better at this (scouting) than anyone in the world, so my quick eye test is better than the echo chamber’s/football media’s studies – so, I’m your best hope for an initial preview…but don’t write any of this in stone…it’s early with limited data and a whole season of info/tape/data to come on these guys.

SAF Hamsah Nasirildeen (Florida St)

6’3”/215

2019: 101 tackles, 2 INTs, 3 PDs, 3 forced fumbles (11g)

Preview Grade = B

I hope he doesn’t make it to the NFL, so I don’t have to remember how to spell/type his name correctly. However, I think I’m going to have to learn – a BIG safety (height/length) with room to add 5-10 pounds of muscle and be a SAF/LB prospect. Can really move for his size – nice in coverage and getting to plays, and he’s a legit hitter. His body looks like he's a finesse player, but he is not…he’s a hitter. Solid all the way around with ‘standout’ size.

Reminds me of: Obi Melifonwu.

SAF Caden Sterns (Texas)

6’1”/205

2019: 59 total tackles, 4.0 TFLs, 1 PD (9g)

Preview Grade = B

Sterns might be the best safety talent in the 2021 draft class, but I’m not sure he’s that great for fantasy/IDP. Sterns is a superior-smart safety – a great coverage SAF/LB and a textbook tackler. He’s the kind of prospect who won’t stand out with gaudy numbers or crazy highlight reel hits…you have to scout him for what he is – a very smart, very reliable, shutting down/taking away TE/WRs (no points for that in IDP), quality tackler. You want Sterns on your NFL team but not sure how much you want him for IDP.

Reminds me of: Antoine Bethea, Jordan Poyer, Eric Weddle.
