2016 TE Prospect Grades (FINAL)

Date:
April 24, 2016

This is a bad, bad tight end class. Mitch Mathews is not even a real tight end, and I don’t think he wants to be…but he has an interesting profile of size-athleticism where maybe he could be a convert. That’s how sad this class is...that he’s arguably the most intriguing…

Hunter Henry is OK, but nothing super special. He wasn’t even Arkansas’s best tight end.

Seth DeValve is a very interesting athlete at tight end…a true tight end. He registered a 40” vertical and a sub-7.0 three cone at his Pro Day. He looks like mini-Gronk on tape, at times.

Thomas Duarte may be the best smaller tight end receiving weapon, the most polished.

Devon Cajuste and Marques North are WR prospects we tried to translate to tight end.

The prospect we’re probably wrong about: Hunter Henry, Arkansas

On tape, he looks very smooth…but he rarely puts up big games or dominates for stretches of time. I question his heart for the game, but he has decent skills.

The prospect graded under 6.0 who could become a star in the NFL: Thomas Duarte, UCLA

He’s the one tight end prospect that is a WR/TE hybrid type that is a bit of a brawler. I don’t believe Mathews-Cajuste-North have the heart or desire to play tight end, but Duarte is scrappy and a solid receiver who played tight end and wide receiver in college. He could be an interesting weapon for the right team.
