*Pre-editor post (forgive any typos)
Here’s what you really need to know about this game…
*Note…Rams won 33-31. Had to come from behind and held on at the end.
1) The Rams went three and out first drive.
2) The Rams either scored or were in the red zone the next 8 drives, with one drive before halftime Hail Mary throw to end zone.
3) The final drive the Rams took a knee.
Literally, this game should have been Rams 50+ to whatever Seattle did.
At Seattle, raucous crowd (into the game because Seattle led for chunks), the Rams down two top WRs to concussion for a half+, the Seahawks a top 5 pass defense on the season – and the Rams almost scored every time they had the ball.
Last year, the Rams went to Seattle in a playoff atmosphere game and beat them 42-7. The Rams are scoring at will. This Rams offense, specifically passing game is working on a whole other level. BUY everything…Goff and go get as many of the three WRs as you can and stack them. It’s pure gold.
Fantasy Player Notes…
-- Because the Rams offense is bonkers, Jared Goff (23-33 for 322 yards, 1 TD/2 INTs) is bordering on being maybe the best QB in all of fantasy.
How many times did I write or say…’An good-great-elite QB on the best offense in football’ going back to last year. Now, here we are.
If you watched this game, Goff just did whatever he wanted to pretty much. Seattle would go on this several minute drive and the Rams would get the ball back in three plays later they would be in the red zone. It’s like, you can’t even look away or you miss the Rams getting 60-70 yards in 2-3 plays. It’s crazy.
In this game, Goff had a TD pass to Gurley (two-yard pass) get batted as it reached Gurley (bit of a P.I.) and the ball popped into the sky for a pick. Next drive or two, TD pass to Gurley called back…settled for an FG. Goal line complete to Gerald Everett, tackled at one-inch line. With a little luck…Goff has at least 4 TD passes in this game.
The line/space between Mahomes and Goff, for fantasy output, is shrinking fast. You don’t believe me, but you should. Mahomes is near unobtainable…Goff can still be had because people don’t believe.
-- Chris Carson (19-116-0, 1-11-0/1) had his second 100+ yard game in his last two starts…and everyone’s heart is a flutter. 98 yards in a game is boring. And hitting 101…is some kind of magical mark.
Carson produced 13.7 PPR points in this game.
Mike Davis (12-68-1, 2-7-0/2) produced 15.5 PPR points.
Therein lies the problem for Carson – Mike Davis is a better RB talent, and he is for sure the better pass catcher so Carson may go 15-20 carries for 50-100 yards but Davis is lurking and is better for the red zone and on passing downs. When Carson doesn’t run for 100+, he’s going to make people cry in fantasy.
Davis is really, really good and is going to get 40%+ of the touches.
-- What if Cooks-Kupp are out this week?
I think at least one plays, but if not -- the players to work with are…
Gerald Everett (3-24-0/3) could be installed as the surprise Jordan Reed he was drafted to be and is starting to show signs of. He’s not there yet, but he could be unleashed by necessity here.
Josh Reynolds (1-10-0, 2-39-0/3) could have a Marquez Valdes-Scantling moment for a week…backup guy who is working with the master and scores a TD and has a nice game. Great daily play of Cooks-Kupp are out.
-- You might want Reynolds over any Seattle WR this week. Not because of talent but just the targeting is so erratic and anemic for FF purposes.
I love Tyler Lockett (3-98-1/5), but he can’t keep scoring TDs on 3-4-5 targets a game.
I love David Moore’s (3-28-2/4) future but Wilson is not looking for him as a primary…more as a bailout deep ball hope.
Doug Baldwin (1-1-0/1) played the most snaps at WR for the team…and had 1 target. And that was a Wilson scramble and pitch forward to him…early in the game. For like the last 58+ minutes the #1 WR on the team got one target in a shootout.
Which one of these guys do you play week to week? It’s a scramble.
-- You got two more weeks with the Rams-DST and then you’re in trouble…
At DEN, at SF the next two weeks is good.
I don’t know how you hold them or play them through Weeks 8-15…GB-NO-SEA-KC-BYE-DET-CHI-PHI. No easy matchups or bad QBs at all.
