Dynasty-Fantasy Football Analysis – 2017 Wk16: Steelers v. Texans

Date:
December 28, 2017 8:49 PM
December 29, 2017 5:00 AM

The Steelers needed a win to lock up a first-round BYE, and they utterly dismantled a bored Texans team…a team who had a revolving door of concussed/kinda concussed/not concussed QBs in this one. It was over quick and as expected. Nothing special happened here.

Fantasy Player Notes…

— With the news of Big Ben (20-29 for 226 yards, 2 TDs/0 INT) and LeVeon Bell (14-69-1, 5-28-0/8) to sit out this week, I would project the following impacts...

Landry Jones should start but then I would expect rookie Josh Dobbs to play some. Jones is OK, but Dobbs is a gift to the opposing defenses.

I expect Stevan Ridley (9-28-0)to take the majority of carries over Fitzgerald Toussaint...but what ‘majority’ means is up for debate. To get Ridley up to speed, as witnessed in this game (garbage time carries), I’d expect him to get 15+ touches in Week 17. He’s not a great receiver but he might see 1-2 targets/catches.

I’d say the Browns DST is a serious sleeper this week. Considering this team has as much motivation as any playing this week — to not go winless. I’d  expect the Browns to throw the kitchen sink at the Steelers and do everything they can to win...and no Ben and Bell gives them a real hope.

Juju Smith-Schuster (6-751/9) and Martavis Bryant (3-60-0/4) may start but I would not expect them to play for long. Eli Rogers (1-6-0/4) may lead the team in receiving but may not be enough to be FF-worthy.

The Steelers ‘giving up’ essentially...I wouldn’t have a ton of faith in the Steelers-DST.

 — Man, if you watched this game...what might have been if Vance McDonald (4-52-0/5) had stayed healthy working with Big Ben for a full season. He may be a big reason the Steelers get over the hump over the Pats in the playoffs.

 — Did you know Lamar Miller (10-55-0, 1-10/1) hasn’t rushed for more than 75 yards rushing in a game this year? No more than 62 yards rushing in his past 10 games. Contrast that with Alfred Blue (16-108-0) rushing for 100+ in this game.

I’ve said since Miller heisted a big deal from Houston that this was a huge mistake. He and Brock Osweiler signed to big deals the same year...and the GM is still employed.

Blue has out-snapped and outplayed Miller for two games in a row.

He may make it three in week 17.

 — ‘My guy’ Dylan Cole (5 tackles, 1 PD) got some extra playing time and did what he does...always around the play, getting in on the action.

I cannot believe Houston is not pushing him to see what they have and to get him ready for 2018.
