2018 Sunday Week 14 -- Open Thread/Notes (12:25pmET update)

2018 Sunday Week 14 -- Open Thread/Notes

So many things happening in a whirlwind Sunday morning…news and notes and rumors coming from all angles, plus the Video Q&A show 11-1pmET – it’s hard to communicate everything pre-kickoff.

With that in mind, I’m going to open up this post and add to it as I get info or a thought or whatever – notes before kickoff, trends happening on the Video Q&A, breaking betting lines, etc. Whatever I want to note and I’ll clearly mark it with the times so you can see what and when. God Bless us one and all…

=================

12:23pmET: Show Updates...

-- Evan Engram working a lot with Eli during week and in pregame, a lot of discussions and work between them...I'm falling in love with EE this week!

-- TY Hilton appears more clear/clean than let on. Good to go.

-- Keke Coutee out, DeAndre Carter deep sleeper PPR WR

10:46amET: NE at MIA

Just saw a live shot...pouring down rain on an uncovered turf. Rain supposedly over soon.

Miami field crew may want this turf a mess...ya know what I mean?

10:34amET: KC vs. Ravens defense...

Brees, Mayfield, Ben 2x = 5 TDs/1 INT, 280.0 passing yards. Brees had the lowest yards (212) because the Saints ran all over them.

Running attacks v. BAL = Saints, Panthers, Steelers all tallied 110+ rush yards against them in recent weeks. CIN-OAK-ATL all were shutdown, but somewhat because all those O-Lines suck.

The Ravens feast on the weak and get popped by the strong. It's not an easy matchup but it's not one to be ultra-feared for KC things.

9:49amET: Weather report...

-- Don't forget the LAR-CHI game will feel like 20+ degrees but Chicago has under turf heating systems. It could be around 40 degrees around the field level.

Same thing in BAL-KC and ATL-GB. Cold-looking, but not as cold on the field if they heat them up properly.

-- The worst case scenario for weather seems to be NO-TB...already rainy this morning. But the rain looks like it will be gone by kickoff, but still a bit slick and with 10-15 MPH winds. Not perfect but not damning.

9:32amET: Random items...

-- James Conner reportedly could miss a couple of weeks, and I think that's all but guaranteed. Which means the Steelers need to get Jaylen Samuels up to speed (since they failed to do so all season), but may want to hide him a bit in the passing game due to the fact they're facing the Patriots next week. Teams tend not to be that clever, and tend to more play every week as the end of the world week...so I expect a good push for Jaylen on today's game.

-- T.Y. Hilton got cleared to play already, so a little less fear here. It wasn't so much the game-time-decision. A little more confidence here. Not perfect but not as much doom.

9:00amET: Opening Notes...

-- Evan Engram something now that OBJ is out?

Sure...I mean, I have his projections bumped -- but it's no sure thing. Engram hasn't been playing but 20-30% of the snaps in games anymore; prior to his hamstring injury. How does OBJ being out change the fact that Shurmur doesn't value him? EE probably gets a few more snaps in passing downs. Eli values him more as an option without the OBJ crutch.

Engram has been a random, low-end TE1 hopeful (failure) on reduced snaps as it is...maybe he gets and extra 2-3 targets here and does something? It's not like Trey Burton or other rando TE1s have such a great case playing all the snaps.

-- Two events timings to keep in mind...

Rams v. Bears is the 8pm game...FFM'ers probably have some decent firepower going in that game -- and you'll have to wait for it.

The TNF game Week 15...LAC at KC. I don't think Melvin Gordon will be 100% for that game. If LAC forces it...Melvin owners will be held hostage forcing him into the lineup. If Melvin out...more Justin Jackson. As f today, I believe Gordon will not be ready and JJax will matter for another week.
