2020 Week 2 Analysis: 49'ers @ Jets (By Ross Jacobs)

Date:
September 27, 2020

Ross Jacobs has been an FFM correspondent on NFL games and NFL Draft matters for the past few years. He is going to be writing up some of his notes on various games he’s watching/studying this year. Typically, he will have written/submitted his work before mine, so this is a look at the same game with different eyes...and you can compare and contrast or find some new takeaways.

2020 Week 2 Analysis: 49'ers @ Jets (By Ross Jacobs)

-This is going to be my shortest report by far this week. There's just nothing to say. I gave up on taking notes after the 49'ers went up 24-3. I could sum up the entire game with one sentence. The 49'ers are average, and the Jets are the absolute worst team in the league.

-I don't have many game notes here for the same reason I didn't for the Ravens game. The Jets are so terrible that it's nearly impossible to glean anything meaningful from their games. The 49'ers looked like champs playing them, and the Niners have been completely crippled by injuries. They were missing their QB for half the game, their top cornerback, their all-world tight end, their top two wide receivers, and both their top two pass rushers. How bad does that make the Jets?? They are quite possibly the worst team I've ever seen, and that's including a couple of 0 win Lions and Browns teams!

-You have to feel bad for the Niners. I've never seen a team this decimated by injuries. They have no chance to compete this year unfortunately. In addition to all the injuries listed above there are multiple other ones including new injuries to two of their three RB's, Mostert and Coleman. Jerrick McKinnon is a wonderful addition to your fantasy team, at least in the short term, if you can acquire him.

-The only positive note I have for the Jets is Tarell Basham again. He played pretty well considering the devastation around him. Otherwise this defense managed to give up an 80 yard TD on the very first play of the game, lucked into a penalty that nullified another 69 yard TD on the exact same toss play, and gave up a 3rd and 31 to a toss play that McKinnon reversed field and took off straight through the middle of the defense for a first down. They suck royally. Start every single fantasy player you have against them.

-I don't have any positive notes about the Jets offense. It's beyond words how pitiful they are. 37 year old Frank Gore is their starting RB. Thirty. Seven. And Sam Darnold can barely complete a pass. I don't think I need to tell anyone that it's probably a good idea to start their defense against the Jets...

-The Niners are going to be lucky to win 5 games this year because of all their injuries. Nick Mullens isn't carrying you to the promised land. The Jets seriously might go 0-16. Go look at their schedule. Can someone get me the odds Vegas is offering on that? It's got to be worth plunking down a couple dollars.

Fantasy Notes:

-I'd just avoid everything on both these teams other than McKinnon.
