Daily Commentary 10/5 THU...(8:11pmET *Proj Updated)

October 5, 2017

*Daily notes as I see them/the mood strikes -- about football or otherwise. Updating throughout (latest time in title). Moving fast so forgive typos...

8:08pmET: Is it me or...

I'm listening to Bill Cowher spew football info on the NFL pregame and it struck me -- that guy has been a coach for however long, a winning one at that...he's been on TV as an analyst for what, like a decade? In all that time I've never heard him say one thing that I found interesting or fresh or intriguing. 20 random minutes of Tony Romo on TV is more fertile than Bill Cowher's 20 years. I'm just saying...why do we think NFL head coaches are some special breed?

-- Reports are that Gronk might not be active. I would NOT pick up Dwayne Allen just to thwart the person with Gronk, unless some super deep league (in which case Allen likely rostered). If you really want to screw you opponent let him have Allen.

-- I'd put the odds Mariota plays this week at 10%. it's a shame for Rishard Matthews...MIA-IND-CLE was a gold schedule stretch and now Mariota is going to blow it. The MIA DST could be a sneaky play this week.

*When projections are updated we tweaked some defensive trending so you'll see most DST with some changes...that's why.

4:00pmET: Afternoon news check...

-- Tyler Boyd facing drug and traffic issues...that's a promising career down in flames.

-- Paul Perkins looking more likely NOT to play...Wayne Gallman might have some FF usefulness after all for a week.

-- I don;t think Wendell Smallwood is playing -- for those in need: Corey Clement would be the pick up to surprise people this week.

-- I'm hearing more 'no' than 'yes' on Stephon Gilmore tonight.

12:50pmET: I would guess Ty Montgomery is going to go/start for the Packers this week. This is a crucial game in the NFL. A Packers' loss sends them into a divisional cluster with a very good Vikings and Lions team...possibly a game behind the Lions after this week. A Dallas loss pushes them to a losing record on the season. Assuming these two teams will be firmly in the playoff hunt, this game could mean critical home field between them in January...in a warm dome or on the frozen tundra. Whoever can go is going to go in this game...including Davante Adams...

11:20amET: Football notes from the morning...

-- The Giants could be missing both their top pass rushers and their starting center this week...my computer models are harping on that for a Chargers win this week, sending the Giants to 0-5.

-- Did you see the Saints' RB coach saying Adrian Peterson is going to breakout? That's why I trade Alvin Kamara hot in redraft before the next game...the Saints are hellbent to be a running team and if Kamara has a 2 catch for 18 yards game, his value will plummet. Duke Johnson (less talented than Kamara) is NEEDED because the Browns have nothing. Kamara will be 9th in the pecking order at any given time.

-- Wait, what? Did I see this report right? The Texans claimed Ben Heeney from the Saints? How is that possible? The Saints just activated him last week...and lost Alex Anzalone as well. I wonder what is causing Heeney's spiral in the NFL? I know the talent is there, but he might be pissing off coaches...although, he doesn't seem like that kind of guy. Stock down for Heeney because Dylan Cole is sitting their with Houston.
