6:40pmET: Week 17 Projections updated (IDP projections are being worked on and will post before Midnight ET)

Early Afternoon Notes...

-- Patrick Mahomes will start for the Chiefs Week 17. I expect he'll not play with the starters because they don't want the Mahomes start to be 'too good', if that makes sense...they don;t need a distraction before the playoffs. They'd also want the main WRs only concentrating on passes from Smith...not getting muscle-memory/reps from Mahomes. We'll get into all this today with our KC-MIA recap, focusing on Week 17 with Mahomes starting.

If Smith sits...so will Hunt, Hill, Kelce, among others.

-- The Ravens promoted WR Quincy Adeboyejo from the practice squad, so Jeremy Maclin is probably done...at a minimum for Week 17.

-- The Redskins released Kenny Hilliard (picked up last weekend)...so, I guess Samaje Perine is OK.

-- Good for Jamaal Charles -- he's asking for his release, and openly questioned what the Broncos are doing. Why shouldn't the Broncos let him go to a playoff team? They way they've treated Charles this year is disgusting. Every time I turnaround, Vance Joseph is doing or saying something stupid about his personnel. He won't be long for the head coaching world. He'll get one more season, maybe. if I were John Elway -- I'd rip the band aid right now.

Morning Notes...

-- I thought the Steelers would rollover and rest starters pretty quick, or even from the start Sunday but it looks like they'll give it a go and see whether the Jets can get up on the Patriots and make staying with starters worth their while. Even if just to get the Pats to use their starters and perhaps one of them get hurt and out for the playoffs. Mike Tomlin has been a notorious Week 17 rester but I think he goes with the starters until it looks like the Pats won't get beat/they have a big lead. He'll pull them quick when it makes sense.

Talk of Tomlin resting players this week may also be to get the Patriots guard down going into their Jets game.

-- The Rams have a #3 v #4 seed to play for, so it was surprising to see word that the Rams may rest starters and take the #4 seed...BUT it makes sense -- Rams win and they likely face the Falcons-Vikings but if they go to the #4 seed they face Panthers-Eagles. They may be interested in taking the path that takes them to facing the Eagles after Round 1 rather than the Vikings...hoping the Vikings then lose to the Saints.

It still seems like an odd choice to rest and prefer a #4 seed, but the rest is probably more important, and Sean McVay hasn't been much of a liar. He's usually pretty honesty, straight forward.
