Week 15 Sunday Game's Quick Notes...

Date:
December 18, 2017

*The Top 5 Trade For/Away, Waivers/Free agents, etc. will post tomorrow pre-noonET.

For now, here's the instant reaction to Sunday, subject to change when I go through the tape fully a second time…

PHI-NYG

Week 16: NYG at ARI, PHI hosts OAK on MNF

-- Back-to-back weeks with Wayne Gallman (8-39-0, 6-40-0/7) catching 6 dump passes…he’s not doing anything magical with them but it’s a TD’s worth of catches in PPR. You have to assume 5+ catches again next week, no?

-- Sterling Shepard (11-138-1/16) was back to heavy targets and catch count ways. Before you get too excited…he draws Patrick Peterson next week.

-- Nick Foles (24-38 for 237 yards, 4 TD/0 INT) faces a bad OAK pass defense with the #1 seed on the line/still up in the air. He has to be a QB1 this week, no?

NYJ-NO

Week 16: LAC at NYJ, ATL at NO

-- Robby Anderson (5-40-0/12) was definitely Bryce Petty’s top target…but inefficient as expected, especially against Marshon Lattimore. Better-but-not-great matchup with LAC Week 16.

-- Bilal Powell (13-44-1, 0-0-0-1) led the NYJ backfield in carries but Matt Forte (7-24-0, 2-10-0/5) and Elijah McGuire (4-24-0, 3-48-1/3) were all active (despite being questionable) and all split work. It’s a cluster for Week 16.

-- Ted Ginn out…Willie Snead steps up with 1 catch for 22 yards and 2 TDs. No sleeper for Week 16 there with Snead who has had a terrible 2017 going into his free agency.

CIN-MIN

Week 16: DET at CIN, MIN at GB

-- Cincy is down several defenders and now news of the head coach leaving – everything against the Bengals is ‘good’ Week 16…Stafford, the Lions’ WRs, and betting on the Lions…and the Lions DST may be nice as well.

-- Joe Mixon should return next week…and faces a soft Lions run defense. A possible solid start Week 16

-- All systems go for the Vikings vs. Green Bay next week…Case Keenum (20-23 for 236 yards, 2 TDs/0 INT) is going to be a top 5 projection, I suspect. Thielen-Rudolph-McKinnon-Murray-Vikings DST…all positive (assuming no Rodgers). Keenum is on a serious roll right now.

ARI-WAS

Week 16: NYG at ARI, DEN at WAS

-- A bad, depleted NYG defense…Kerwynn Williams (17-61-0, 0-0-0/1) may matter as a real RB2-ish option this week.

-- Top OT Trent Williams was inactive this game which helped a game/aggressive Cardinals really lock up Kirk Cousins (18-26 for 196 yards, 2 TDs/0 INTs) and Samaje Perine (14-37-0, 2-29-0/2) this game. It could be even worse facing Denver next week. All things Washington ‘bad’ for Week 17.

-- D.J. Foster (4-22-0/9) had a great number of targets…but had flimsy output from it. Can’t be trusted yet in PPR, but the target total from this game will catch your attention.

MIA-BUF

Week 16: NE at BUF, MIA at KC

-- We’ve been anti-Kelvin Benjamin (2-20-0/2) since this trade…not a good fit in Buffalo. He had a weak game here, and is not a good play versus Stephon Gilmore next week.

-- I don’t expect Damien Williams to play Week 16, but even if he does – Kenyan Drake (16-78-1, 6-35-0/11) will be an RB1 projection at KC next week.

-- I thought Tyrod Taylor (17-29 for 224 yards, 1 TD/0 INT, 6-42-1) would be a bit gimpy but he looked fine running around. An interesting option in a critical game vs. a shaky KC defense next week…for the desperate in 4pts per pass TD leagues.

GB-CAR

Week 16: CAR at TB, MIN at GB

-- If I had to choose one GB RB next week – it would be Aaron Jones (3-47-0, 1-6-0/2). He looks like a legit NFL starting RB. Jamaal Williams (10-30-0) is ‘just a guy’. I said to fear Jones usurping Williams for 2-3 weeks…the ‘winner’ was Week 15, when it happened.

-- I guess Greg Olsen (9-116-1/12) is fine after doing nothing at all in his return for injury the last few weeks prior. He’s back for top 5 TE work.

-- Aaron Rodgers (26-45 for 290 yards, 3 TD/3 INT) will not play for the rest of the year IF Atlanta wins on MNF, which is likely – so get ready for Brett Hundley…maybe minus Davante Adams. Randall Cobb (7-84-1/14) may be a fantasy starter next week with Hundley…even if Adams is back and GB is still in it/Rodgers playing.

BAL-CLE

Week 16: IND at BAL, CLE at CHI

-- Another gem from offensive genius Hue Jackson…10 points, another loss. The Bears DST is an option for Week 16, but I’m not as hot on it as you might think. The Bears have a lot of injuries on defense…and Hue may bench DeShone Kizer.

-- Alex Collins (12-19-0, 5-33-0/8) got stuffed and Javorius Allen (13-70-0, 1-4-0/3) took more work. I don’t think there’s a shift from Collins…it’s just the Ravens go hot hand in most cases.

-- Josh Gordon (5-47-0/11) looks good but DeShone Kizer is so bad you can’t hardly trust him week-to-week, or play-to-play. He’s a boom or bust WR2 for Week 16. If Kizer is benched, I’m more interested in Gordon.

HOU-JAX

Week 16: PIT at HOU on MNF, SF at JAX

-- Let’s hear the excuses from the football experts for why Keelan Cole (7-186-1/9) keeps wrecking things and Dede Westbrook (2-21-0/2) is a yawn. They’ll likely just ignore Cole. Marqise Lee went down early in the game and opened all this up.

-- I’m a Jaydon Mickens (4-61-0/5) fan as a guy who should be on an NFL roster, but I didn’t see a 2 TD coming in 2017. If Lee is out next week…I’d bet on Cole not Mickens, or Westbrook.

-- Hard to make too much fun of T.J. Yates (12-31 for 128 yards, 1 TD/1 INT)…this was an impossible start against Jacksonville. He had a very lucky TD toss to DeAndre Hopkins (4-80-1/13) or this would have been a 100% mess.

LAR-SEA

Week 16: LAR at TEN, SEA at DAL

-- Jared Goff (14-21 for 120 yards, 2 TDs/1 INT) completed 14 passes, and nearly half of them to the returning Robert Woods (6-45-1/7). We know who the true #1 is for Goff…as Kupp went 2-21-0/3 in Woods’ return.

-- The Rams just squashed Seattle from the opening whistle…I wouldn't judge any of the Seahawks weapons by this performance because it was one of the great beatings of 2017.

-- Within this beatdown, furthering on a theme we discussed from last week…7 targets for Richardson, 4 for Baldwin.

NE-PIT

Week 16: NE at BUF, PIT at HOU on MNF

-- I hate the way Brady-Cooks looks now. Brandin Cooks (4-60-1/7) caught a 43-yard pass early and then had 17 yards the rest of the game. It’s a WR2 life for Cooks right now. Robert Woods should be played over Cooks for FF purposes.

-- With Antonio Brown out it’s now the JuJu Smith-Schuster (6-114-0/6) show. Favorable matchups ahead with HOU and CLE, but JSS is not Antonio…however, they have to get their timing down with JuJu seeing much better coverage so it should be nice numbers the next two weeks.

-- Before Rex Burkhead took off, James White (2-8-0/3) was a WR1-2 in PPR on nice targeting…if Rex is out, White might be a sneaky run at an RB1 in PPR this week.

TEN-SF

Week 16: TEN at LAR, SF at JAX

-- Jimmy Garoppolo (31-43 for 381 yards, 1 TD/0 INT) was even more amazing this week than the amazing he was the past few games…I am debating a full move of JG over Trubisky for the dynasty stash (not that you can get JG now…we all jumped at that weeks ago, I hope). However, not so amazing that I’d use him Weeks 16 (JAX) and 17 (LAR).

-- How good has the Marquise Goodwin (10-114-0/13) connection been with Garoppolo? WR1-level work is how good. However, I can’t see it versus Jalen Ramsey/the Jags this week.

-- Another week, another terrible Titans run game…and Mike Mularkey sticking with DeMarco Murray (18-59-0, 1-4-0/1)…a decision that should now lead to him getting fired if they don’t make the playoffs.

DAL-OAK

Week 16: DAL hosts SEA, OAK at PHI on MNF

-- Tyron Smith went out…and the Dallas offense turned back into a pumpkin. It will be a key thing to watch for Week 16 for Dak Prescott (18-27 for 212 yards, 0 TDs/2 INTs) on whether you can use him with any confidence. Ezekiel Elliott is not the magic potion…Tyron Smith is.

-- The Dallas DST with Sean Lee holds another opposing offense to under 20 points here…five-in-a-row now under 20 with Lee. I wouldn’t be shocked if they held Seattle under 20 as well next week but I wouldn’t bet on it.

-- Jared Cook (2-17-0/4) catches in games the last five games: 2-1-1-5-2. Yards in a game his last 4 games: 2-9-75-17. He really cannot be trusted.
