*Quick notes, moving fast on them...forgive any typos*
**One set of notes this MON-TUE this week before we go full tilt, all day, with the blizzard of activity from the preseason games.**
*Tuesday notes will post in the afternoon…as Tuesday morning I will be taking my son off to college to his new dwelling for the next two years (hopefully). I don’t know if I’ll have tears of happiness or tears of joy/relief after that event. I won’t be communicating with my football sources again until Tuesday midday to post my latest scoop later that day.
Camp Notes, of interest to me, that I’ve seen from bootleg tape or heard from my ‘secret’ sources (no particular order):
-- The Colts’ owner proclaiming big numbers for Marlon Mack this season – exactly what I was referring to in our 14,000+ word redraft mock draft with me and Katz; exactly the type of thing I was planning on. There’s going to be a hype train on Mack that you’ll be able to trade for a pretty good return ahead. More detail on that in our next draft guide update.
-- The owner then proclaiming more hype, this time on Jacoby Brissett, by saying he wouldn’t trade Jacoby for a 1st-round pick. I’m not sure if he said that because he fears an Andrew Luck setback in live action or what. I know he was just being kind.
I have these beans in my hand. They’re magic beans. No, sir. I wouldn’t sell them to you for a thousand dollars if you even asked me.
No one is asking for Jacoby Brissett, and they certainly wouldn’t offer a 1st-round pick. What did he do last year that was so awe-inspiring?
-- The Deon Cain hype persists but Ryan Grant and Chester Rogers are listed as/working as the #2-#3 starters for the Colts still.
-- Boy, is the Courtland Sutton hype train on full blast in Denver (his 95-yard TD in their scrimmage the other day *insert chef’s kiss here*).
Sutton hype hasn’t hit a higher gear nationwide, but it will get a little accelerant poured on it coming up, I’m sure…but probably not as much as you think. Remember, the establishment draft experts and football people pushed Calvin Ridley…pushed so much and doubted/undercut Sutton so much it dropped Sutton to a ridiculous level in the draft.
If the football establishment reports and pushes Sutton now…it’s going to make them look like fools, so they do what the political and football (and any) media does – they ignore/cover up what might make them look bad.
It’s a crime, really. It cost Sutton millions in the draft. Now, he’s working from behind for acceptance by the national fans and for any commercial work, etc.
They’ll throw a ‘Denver loves this kid’ at him, but you can stack that in a pile of 87-141 young players from various teams that they say that about each season. Everyone can’t be a sleeper…or, I guess, everyone is a sleeper potentially?!? Aren’t we all sleepers in some regard?
-- Sutton is on fire and DaeSean Hamilton is showing well as are defensive IDPs Bradley Chubb and Josey Jewell. Denver changed the franchise with this draft, but it’s a year or two away and a coaching staff change away.
-- The Chiefs released their official depth chart. Just a few observations…
-- Nelson/Fuller listed as starting CBs with David Amerson as a backup/#3 CB. I think Nelson will be the slot and Amerson on the outside in the starting lineup, but their depth chart doesn’t show that way.
-- Rookie RB Darrel Williams ahead of nearly last on the RB depth chart Charcandrick West. Spencer Ware listed as the #2 RB.
-- Rookie LB Dorian O’Daniel listed 3rd-team LB at this point.
-- In the Lions scrimmage…Luke Willson was on the 1st-team/starters squad. FYI.
-- Lions camp observers keep talking about Theo Riddick’s presence/importance in the offense still. The Kerryon Johnson notes are usually ‘getting halted in the backfield way too much’.
COMING UP on FFM and CFM…
-- Next notes Tuesday evening, reminder.
-- Next draft guide update today, and we’re doing a shift in valuations top-to-bottom on a certain position. You’ll see which one on the update, and I’m going to post a separate note about it as well in the draft guide area of FFM.
-- Dynasty Rookie Draft top 350 rankings update Tuesday night. This weekly DRD update is about to get very radical with all the preseason scouting. Buckle up. This week’s update has some sharp spikes from training camp notes.
