2018 Preseason Week 4, Dynasty-Fantasy Analysis: Jags v. Bucs

*Pre-editor post (forgive any typos)

I keep saying the Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans look so terrible in the preseason, but I don’t mean to insult the worst team in the NFL – the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They look terrible too. I leave them out sometimes because, I think we all know they’re beyond awful…right? They literally have no ‘real’ running backs…and even if they had some RB talent, no one blocks for this team anyway (and they’re pretty banged up on the O-Line). This team is the epitome of ‘low energy’, no ‘life’ to it all – they know this thing is a dumpster fire before the season even begins.

This Tampa Bay team is just a mixed bag of personnel led by arguably the worst head coach in the NFL…this season can be nothing less than a disaster that gets the coaching staff, GM, and QB all replaced for 2019. 31 other teams have some kinda case you could try to sell me on how they breakthrough this year, seriously…all except Tampa B -- they literally have 0% chance of having a winning season. It’s sad.

Fantasy Player Notes…

-- Here’s how sad the Tampa Bay RB situation is down the depth chart…

They completely set a draft pick on fire with Ronald Jones (10-4-0) this year…a useless, worthless pick. I thought it would take a year or two before everyone agreed with me on that, but it took approximately 4 preseason games.

TB UDFA RB Shaun Wilson (7-44-0, 2-24-0/4) is the big ‘surprise’ for the Bucs preseason. Yeah, guess what? Surprise!! He sucks too.

I knew Jones would make the active roster, but so did this Shaun Wilson -- the Bucs could have dumped this guy in the river and grabbed Josh Adams, for free. Nope. Dirk Koetter doesn’t need your fancy analytics and numbers and figurin’.

Meanwhile, Brandon Wilds (17-88-0) was doing his Matt Forte impression, tearing things up for another preseason game – he can’t make the Jags roster. Brandon Wilds is Tampa Bay’s best RB right now…only he’s on the Jaguars practice squad.

Here’s how truly dumb the Tampa Buccaneers are…

The best RB in this game was slimmed down, 2nd-year UDFA, former fullback prospect, 6’0”/235+ pound Sherman Tank Tim Cook (16-51-2, 1-4-0/2). The guy was literally like someone forced a uniform onto a rodeo bull and gave him 16 carries. He showed such raw potential – speed, bouncy feet, raw power. The Jags cut him (because their backfield was already set). The Bucs JUST WATCHED HIM abuse their defense and ‘not interested’, we’ll stick with wee Shaun Wilson for some reason.

It’s like Tampa Bay is trying to lose on purpose.

The best evidence of that last statement was…’With the first pick, the Buccaneers select Jameis Winston’.

-- Again, I say… I have no idea why NFL teams are not grabbing Jags’ UDFA WR Allen Lazard (3-41-0/4)? He looks so good, so natural, with such size. The Jags cut him and placed him gently onto their practice squad without concern of being pickpocketed.

In other news, the Bucs rostered WR Freddy Martino on their 53-man roster….so, yippee!! Super Bowl here we come.

-- At least, the Bucs were smart enough to retain 5th-round rookie WR Justin Watson (2-11-1/3). He’s a really talented WR, one of the best WR prospects in the 2018 NFL Draft – and, yet, Tampa Bay apparently was debating cutting him the past two weeks. Nice. I’d hate for Watson to miss out on that Super Bowl ring.

-- Jags LB Blair Brown (4 tackles, 1 sack) keeps making plays all preseason…some pretty full-speed violent ones. I’m surprised he did not keep/earn a starting job.

I also am surprised Donald Payne (2 tackles) is behind rookie Leon Jacobs (DNP).

-- Anyone remember when 1st-round Jags’ pick DL Taven Bryan (1 tackle) was the next J.J. Watt? I can’t even remember Bryan making a play this preseason.
