2019 Dynasty-Fantasy Football Training Camp Notes (8/02/2019)

Throughout the preseason, we’ll be dropping Dynasty-Fantasy notes every few days as we have some things of interest, rumors, etc., to talk about.

*Writing them on the fly, forgive any errors (in no particular order)…

 -- Miami Camp Notes…

Kenyan Drake is taking over more and more of the #1 duties. Kalen Ballage is still getting a long look as well…but I’m told that just may be to get the youngster ready for whatever, that Drake doesn’t have as much to prove/practice as Ballage.

2nd-year LB Jerome Baker is the player who seems to be garnering the most buzz from the new staff and fans. An IDP impact starter for sure.

 -- L.A. Chargers Notes…

It’s been an Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson split for reps, but I like my sources here telling me that both would see touches without Melvin Gordon in games – but that the staff is looking at Jackson to ‘win’ this job and they plan for him to be ‘the man’ in the duo. Ekeler is his usual complementary role. But that the preseason will begin with Ekeler as the starter…as far as ‘first snap of the game’ goes.

The Chargers thought the Gordon holdout was garden variety at first, but now they (like Dallas) are preparing to go to war and they know there will be hurt feelings, etc., and that this might go weeks into the season. Trading Gordon is becoming more and more an option, still low odds of at this stage (because no one wants an expensive Gordon)…but the trade potential is gaining momentum.

Rookie UDFA RB Jeremy Cox has fully transitioned to fullback, so he’s not in the mix of options at RB anymore. It’s a shame. Watching Rams-Chargers scrimmage, I saw Cox head deep off a play-action (to him) and catch a pass 10+ yards downfield with his super-sweet hands. Such a wasted opportunity by LAC.

 -- Cleveland Notes…

The #1-2 CB tandem seems more and more likely to be Denzel Ward and rookie Greedy Williams Week 1.

2017 UDFA WR Derrick Willies (not Damion Ratley as I mentioned the other day by error) is making waves as a possible #3 WR starter for this team.

 -- Jacksonville Notes…

Ryquell Armstead seems to be taking the reigns as the #2 back behind Leonard Fournette from every source I’ve heard from the last 24-48 hours.

When I see tape of camp, I see two WR groupings at work:

Conley-Westbrook-Cole

Conley-Westbrook-Chark

Chark did this the other day: https://twitter.com/zach_goodall/status/1156198851717619713?s=20

 -- Washington Notes…

Jay Gruden is still swearing up and down that Samaje Perine is having a fantastic camp/offseason. When asked about the AP-Guice-Thompson backfield the other day in a presser, the first words out of Gruden’s mouth was talking about Perine. If Jay can’t keep Samaje on the roster due to the number’s game, he’ll probably trade him to his brother John to backup Josh Jacobs. However, I think they keep Perine and put Bryce Love on I.R. for 2019.

Colt McCoy is considered ‘in the mix’ to start Week 1…it’s where Gruden’s heart has always been in my opinion. He may try to force him ‘one more chance’.

 -- Tennessee Notes…

Rookie RB Alex Barnes is running deep 3rd-4th team. Basically, ignored of late…as UDFA rookies tend to be. We’ll see how much he plays Week 1 of the preseason…it should be his chance to shine, or go to sleep for a while.

It looks like Tajae Sharpe is in the starting trio again, for right now. A.J. Brown and Taywan Taylor are running more 2nd-team.

-- Last night’s Q&A during the HOF game – well, we went to grab the recorded video to edit and post today for you to view…and…well…Shindig is officially a piece of crap website to work with. Great concept. Nice when it’s working but it’s letting us down every other time we use it now.

I went to quick preview how the video opener looked this morning…and no picture/video of me showing on the tape and no audio…other than that it’s great. The rest of the show is there…the questions were displayed, etc., but no video of me and no audio. We’re working on seeing if we can salvage anything from this show over the weekend to post.

I have a video backup plan going forward, that’s actually a primary plan, but wasn’t ready to switch to it -- but it looks like we will ASAP. A way better format/hosting site. I’ll give the details on its debut ASAP…we might debut it for the 8/8 THU night show around the Arizona-Chargers game watch party and Q&A.

-- Speaking of videos, my test concept run of a Q&A with Jason Katz was posted on CFM a week or so ago. That will now post on the draft guide and dynasty offseason areas as well tomorrow/Saturday 8/3. An hour+ long discussion centered around two prospects for the Dynasty Rookie Draft but went into several other discussions.
