2019 Dynasty-Fantasy Preseason Analysis Wk2 Eagles 24, Jaguars 10
I think the Jaguars are boycotting the preseason. They seem to have no real interest in it so far. A lot of the main guys have yet to see the field. The Eagles are pretty similar in not showing much at all…just using the preseason to have Doug Pederson’s fantasy of a six-man backfield RBBC.
Not much to report on this one.
Fantasy Player Notes…
-- The biggest impression I left this game with… I can’t take any more J.J. Arcega-Whiteside (2-20-0/7). They have to convert him to tight end or something. He’s too slow on everything to be an impact wide receiver in the NFL/fantasy. Sure, he can catch the ball well…but it will not matter if it’s a bunch of 5-yard catches on 2nd & 20 with the CB laying way off him.
When he runs downfield patterns, I can’t see his jersey number ever because his covering CB is stride for stride not breaking a sweat acting like a personal human chest protector. Almost always blanketed, all JJAW can do it try to outjump the corner, usually to no avail but sometimes for a cool catch. I saw this so much with him on his college tape.
I’m so over any glowing talk on him. I never bought it, but I started to respect (for fantasy) that he was going to get pushed work regardless. Now, I’m just not interested and nothing can convince me of what my trained eye is seeing.
You watch Preston Williams or KeeSean Johnson at work, compared to JJAW…JJAW doesn’t belong in the discussion. A wasted pick by Philly.
-- The Eagles RB report (because they all played)…
Miles Sanders (5-31-0) started, and that was made a big deal of but I’m not sure it’s that big a deal. It will be a split RBBC among 3-4 backs and Sanders will work in as probably the #2-3 early on and try to work his way up from there. Sanders looked like every other preseason RB in this game. Nothing special or bad.
Jordan Howard (4-15-0, 0-0-0/1) will be the primary split with Sanders…and JoHo will be the lead early on, which only makes sense. I would then see Howard being so much better/experienced that he is the main ball carrier all year…whatever ‘main carrier’ is for Doug Pederson.
Wendell Smallwood (3-3-0) entered the fray after Sanders-Howard and looked like his normal self. Likely, the #4 RB behind Darren Sproles as #3.
The good news, for me, is Josh Adams (5-7-1, 1-19-0/1) was working after Smallwood…which means (fingers crossed) he gets traded/cut in September. It will be a colossal mistake I wish would happen on so many levels. Please…Houston or Jacksonville…wake up!!! Throw a 7th-rounder you’re going to butcher the pick on anyway.
Boston Scott (7-43-1) was in late…and was the best one of the night, but he’s as good as gone because Sproles is going to cost him any chance to be ‘the Sproles’ here. Another major mistake waiting to happen.
Philadelphia is about to spread some RB depth/hopes to some NFL teams out there in a few weeks, and it will have fantasy ramifications.
-- Jags rookie QB Gardner Minshew (19-29 for 202 yards, 0 TD/0 INT) continues to get more comfortable-looking on the field. Everything is progressing just fine. He’s the for sure #2 for Jacksonville for 2019.
-- D.J. Chark (0-0-0/1) had a real nice catch along the sidelines. Perfect throw, Chark goes over the top of a defender, tries to stick the landing inbounds, looks like he does, but crashes to the ground after landing and the ball spit out. Could’ve been a catch but was ruled incomplete.
Chark continues to do things that catch your attention…small subtle things, in his brief appearances in the preseason and then doing the same in training camp/joint practices. He’s on the verge…
-- Two IDP notes…
Rookie DE/OLB Josh Allen (no stats) did not register any stats but did get at least one pressure of the QB. So far so good in his brief preseason appearances.
Rookie UDFA SAF Andrew Wingard (4 tackles) was once again working as an OLB. Looks like he’s converting to that hybrid OLB/SAF position, if not straight OLB.
