2019 Dynasty-Fantasy Preseason Analysis Wk2 Giants 32, Bears 13
This was a bit of a snooze fest. The Giants 1st-team, a lot of them, versus the Bears 2nd/3rd team right off the jump. The Giants won big, but the Bears were never really into this game. Not that it matters. But it’s hard to get a true gage on the 1st-team Giants’ players facing little resistance. Just a few things to discuss from this one…
Fantasy Player Notes…
-- Daniel Jones (11-14 for 161 yards, 1 TD/0 INT) is in for a rude awakening ahead…as is the fawning east coast=based media who loves New York rookie football players more than anything in life, I believe.
Jones won’t have all day in the pocket and stare down his receivers and throw successfully to them in real games. Had Jones faced Denver’s group from MNF that stymied Jimmy Garoppolo, the Jones myth would not be growing. Jimmy G. faces the best defense in football, arguably, on a Monday Night game…while Jones gets the Bears’ 2nd/3rd-team not really putting any real pressure on. When they did get to Jones, he threw some garbage passes and lost two fumbles.
Pat Shurmur and Dave Gettleman are fired…they just haven’t served the papers yet. THEY caused this mess happening with their terrible decisions on quarterbacks. The fans are going to so turn on everything with this team. Eli is going to get a brunt of it and the head coach and GM too.
Baker Mayfield said what everyone short of the Giants’ front office and the Manning con artists was saying in private about Daniel Jones. No one is really disputing the sentiment, more so that they just think it’s bad form for him to say it. Baker said what every Giants fan was thinking when NYG made the pick. History will bear out that Mayfield was once again correct.
Mayfield was right about everything he’s said about Hue Jackson, Colin Cowherd, the NFL Draft analysts, Texas Tech’s coaching staff, etc. Baker is right on just about everything…THEY just don’t like that he’s saying it out loud, exposing the fraudulent, empty NFL ‘way we do things’ mindset. Baker will be crucified on a daily basis the rest of his career because of it. Coaches are going to target Baker with late hits, etc., ahead via low level players desperate to stay in the NFL and desperate to please coaches. You watch. They have to shut Mayfield up.
Baker’s only defense – break every record, win every game.
Week 15 at Arizona/Kingsbury…Baker may throw for 700 yards in an NFL game as he tries to score 100+ points. Kitchens will have to remove him from the game early.
-- Another game, another Bears’ 2nd-year WR Javon Wims (5-64-0/6) working like a real NFL #1 WR…to no one paying attention, most of all blind to it is his coaching staff.
Riley Ridley (3-19-0/5) debuted this game. He looks like he added 5-10 pounds of muscle…and got slower in the process. I never see any ‘it’ in Ridley’s game. He’s competent, a #4-5 WR type…not a higher draft pick WR that should play over Wims…but he will.
Baker would point this out if he were the Bears’ QB.
-- Rookie UDFA RB Jonathan Hilliman (16-56-1) caught my attention somewhat in this game. He really has a nice giddy-up with a thick body, but he cowers into contact too much for comfort. But he’s big and shifty and maybe trainable. He might make the P-Squad here.
-- Bears rookie RB Kerrith Whyte (6-10-1, 0-0-0/1) is making a case to make the 53-man roster. Whyte didn’t have a great game running the ball, but he did take a kick back 103 yards for a TD…called back by holding that had nothing to do with the return/score. He’s a 4.3+ runner who can serve a role for an NFL team.
-- Giants rookie edge rusher Oshane Ximines (2 tackles, 1 sack) registered a nice chase down sack. He showed some nice hops off the snap in this game.
…and that’s all from this game. Like I said…not that exciting. Baker Mayfield’s comments on Jones stole the show from NYG.
