2019 Dynasty-Fantasy Preseason Analysis Wk3 – Ravens 26, Eagles 15

John Harbaugh continues to tear up the preseason. This is like 16-0 against the spread last 16 games. The Eagles helped by digging up Josh McCown and playing him about the whole game.

A few fantasy notes and the Marquise Brown debut!

Fantasy Player Notes…

-- I really wanted to watch J.J. Arcega Whiteside (8-104-1/9) in this game after I blasted him last week. I must have inspired him?

I didn’t see anything real special here. I know he can catch a football well. He just cannot get open very well. He had two 20+ yard plays later in the game and a bunch of small-ball catches around that. Any CBs pressing up on him gives him fits. He’s not bad in a zone coverage or 3rd & long and making catches well short of the mark.

He’s just too slow off the snap and into his cuts to be a big-time NFL WR. Will he be serviceable? Sure. He can catch. He’s smart. Eventually, he’ll be a forgotten receiver. ‘Just another guy’, is my prediction and feel quite strongly about that. I know he’ll get a push and targets from the Eagles and he’ll have some stats along the way but like with Nelson Agholor…eventually reality strikes and better options come along and gone is the ‘rookie promise’ and he ends up a shoulder shrug in fantasy lore in a year or two.

I think there’s a chance it’s worse than that. I just do not see the feet for a high level of NFL play. He’s like a tight end playing wide receiver…and he could have a role doing that for a bit.

-- I was more impressed with Marquise Brown’s (3-17-0/3, 1 carry for -4 yards) debut. Very quick, as advertised. But the nice impression left on me in a small sample was…caught everything thrown his way and he didn’t get all easy/well-thrown balls.

I had my doubts. I worried that his Lisfranc could keep him out for weeks or the whole year. He’s back. He looks good. Stock rising for Brown, for me, but I was so far ‘stock down’ compared to everyone else.

-- The Philly RB Report…a.k.a the “Who is going to be a key pickup for another team in the next week or so” chronicles…

Philly split the work between returning Corey Clement (7-25-0) and Josh Adams (1-18-0/2). It’s a high potential that one of these guys is on the Chiefs or Colts soon, possibly both on the move.

Howard-Sanders-Sproles and either Smallwood, Clement or Adams for the final spot.

My guess is Clement and either Smallwood or Adams, but Smallwood might get traded and Clement waved and Adams stuck on the backburner. I pray Adams gets cut and goes to Houston. Them heading to ‘Andy Reid tree’ teams is most likely…Indy or KC.

-- I’m getting a lot of questions on and love for Justice Hill (7-8-0, 2-8-0/3) for fantasy from the audience, as they wonder why I’m not there on it.

Nothing against Hill, but I do not see a path to any huge upside for him in this offense. If Mark Ingram gets hurt, it’s Gus Edwards and Hill. With Ingram healthy, it’s mostly Ingram with some Hill…working as a satellite back on a team that is not designed as a passing team or working the RB heavy and interesting in the passing game. Good player in a bad spot.

-- Eagles UDFA LB T.J. Edwards (8 tackles) doesn’t have the greatest measurables but he certainly looked like a capable NFL LB in this game. Pretty quick to the ball and good energy all game. In the right place a lot of the time. Keeping my eye on him for down the road. Not sure he has real IDP usefulness just yet, but he caught my attention here a little bit.
