2019 Dynasty-Fantasy Preseason Analysis Wk4 – Jets 6, Eagles 0
How did you spend your Friday night/start of the Labor Day long weekend? Relieved the big weekend is coming? Big, exciting plans? Just some R&R? Yeah…well, I studied the Jets 6, Eagles 0 preseason Week 4 game tape for my bug Friday night activity! You think this is your dream job…be careful what you wish for.
But there I am on that wall…you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall. On that wall watching what Josh Adams is doing before he gets cut (pretty please!)…
Fantasy Player Notes…
-- As I type this, we’re less than 24 hours away from Josh Adams (2 carries for -1 yards, 1 rec. for -5 yards) being released. The team’s leading rusher. The guy who rose from the UDFA ranks to be the Eagles top guy when their brilliant Jay Ajayi move blew up in their faces – Adams is getting cut so Corey Clement can stay on the roster.
You might know how much I think of Josh Adams – one of the best RB talents in the 2018 NFL Draft, and definitely one of the best 32 runners in the NFL. I could go on a rant of how stupid the Eagles are for doing such a thing, but it will be even worse when nobody around the league notices Adams is available for free and he just goes unclaimed…or is picked up to be some temp #4 RB.
I want Adams to land in one of three places…
1) Houston – to try to ascend to the starting role vacant.
2) Jacksonville – to go be with Foles again, and backstop Fournette and make my bets on the Jaguars ‘over’ 7.5 wins an even better series of bets.
3) Jets – The new GM is from Philly and would know Adams, but I don’t know how he feels about him. Adams would instantly be the #2 RB in New York.
Adams didn’t even start this Week 4 preseason game, Wendell Smallwood (7-23-0, 1-0-0/2) did…and Smallwood could wind up in Houston and have his fantasy value jack higher, or he could go to the Jags or Jets on the same connections Adams has.
The most interested I am in the 53-man roster cuts this weekend – the final plights of Adams/Smallwood.
-- I had to address the Josh Adams thing first, but the real story here – Jets rookie LB Blake Cashman (6 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 FF) looked TERRIFIC here. He should be starting Week 1, but instead he’s starting Week 4 of the preseason.
Cashman is Blake Martinez/GB reincarnated…which means ‘best in class’ in pass coverage of RBs and a future Pro Bowler. I called Martinez ahead of the crowd…put me down for the same on Cashman. If you’re into watching young IDPs, watch this game just focused on Cashman. You’ll fall in love with his movement skills.
The best bet of Week 1 might be Buffalo +3 at NYJ…
The overrated Sam Darnold will be crushed by the Buffalo defense. The Darnold lovefest from EVERYONE in the media is pushing the line/narrative.
The Jets have a new kicker crisis. They have a DB crisis. And they lost their middle linebacker weeks ago, and their best replacement (Cashman) will probably not play anything but special teams.
It’s a Blazing Five pick for me, I think.
Speaking of that, all the in-season handicapping stuff is coming your way AFTER the 53-man rosters are settled and we start seeing some injury reports. FYI…real football next week BAYYYYBEEEE!!!
-- What happened to Elijah McGuire (14-29-0, 5-330/5)? I thought he was the next LaDainian Tomlinson?
The RB coach that said that in 2018 is now with the Browns in 2019, so you’ll see McGuire on the Browns practice squad soon.
-- I must have inspired Davis Webb (18-23 for 176 yards, 0 TD/2 INT) with my aggressive comments last game review because he was finally gunning the ball deep whenever he could. Best showing yet in 2019, but too little too late. His Jets’ career is over, and his NFL career is on life support. Watch for a move to Arizona or Kansas City practice squads as having some ‘hope’.
Luke Falk (13-18 for 91 yards, 0 TD/0 INT) should make the team but he probably won’t. If I’m Belichick, I grab Falk as a developmental Brady-like guy to go along with the wonderful Jarrett Stidham.
-- Eagles rookie UDFA T.J. Edwards (10 tackles) looked really good again this week. He’s gotta make the team, I’d think. Just a rookie name to watch in years to come. Nothing imminent and not really a star…but he’s playing much better than I thought he was capable of.
-- Daniel Brown (4-21-0/5) should be on the move this weekend. Released from NYJ. This Very Deep Sleeper has gone to sleep.
