2020: Dynasty/Fantasy Offseason News, Observations, Rumors (2/17/2020)

Every few days on FFM, in the offseason, per usual, I’m going to share some observations from the latest football news and share any rumors/interesting conversations I’m coming across. Two or three items every few days, as I have things of interest to share.

In no particular order…

 -- Just a rumor to ponder…

What if the Panthers are getting ready to sellout to the Bengals to acquire pick 1.01 to get Joe Burrow?

The Panthers have hired Burrow’s QB coach Joe Brady…with Brady they would have the most personal/behind-the-scenes insights on Burrow, in theory. They would also be able to pair this lethal (in theory) combo up again.

The Panthers need a quarterback, and I do not believe for a second that Matt Rhule is coming in to rebuild the Panthers and going to roll the dice with Cam.

If Rhule is going to rebuild the Panthers and tank/not care about 2020, in his 1st-season, as is his M.O. – then he would be fine selling out for Burrow and acquiring a bunch of draft picks to partially replace what kind of picks given up it  would take to get Burrow via other trades.

Carolina could send Cam Newton, plus a swap of draft picks, and two future #1 picks and other misc. trinkets and get a can’t miss franchise QB right here, right now.

This is not a rumor that I’ve heard, it’s my matchmaking – and I think it has to be a big discussion point for Carolina management right now.

If you add to the mix that Joe Burrow may not want to play for the Bengals, and IF he’s making that clear behind the scenes – Cincy needs to sell that pick, and they could get a king’s ransom for it if they play their cards right. Carolina may be in the best position/most aggressive to overpay, but down the road it will not really be an overpay…it would be brilliant for the Panthers.

-- From Joe Brady to Tom Brady

I would be completely shocked if Tom Brady signed anywhere but in New England. If he left the Pats to play for Tampa Bay, for example, just because of more money…how sickening. The guy has plenty of money. I don’t begrudge him making a few extra bucks, but write a book, do a few more commercials…but why spit on the fans, the franchise that you have helped build into what it is today, to get another extra paycheck with the Chargers or whomever?

You think Brady is being forced out? I’m sure Belichick sees some writing on the wall that Brady isn’t what he was but…really? Who is Belichick getting better than Brady right now? Is he wanting to blow up the entire roster and start afresh? I don’t think Belichick is dumb enough or heartless enough to send Brady packing…for the good of the franchise, in honor of what Brady has done for that team’s value and the coach’s standing in the world – just pay Brady a lot of money and do a retirement tour the next season or two. Just eat it and move on. I’m sure Belichick senses that’s the smart way through this.

The only people that deserve a blank check in the NFL…

Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, Patrick Mahomes, J.J. Watt (for all that he has done in the community on top of football). So what if the Patriots go 8-8 and lose the division in 2020 behind a fading Brady – is any fan really going to be so scarred from that? Is Belichick’s legacy, or Brady’s, somehow tarnished? Why would Brady want to end his career as a Raider or Buc…for what, a few extra coins?

I think 100% that Tom Brady is back in New England for 2020 and is well-paid to do so. Brady knows he’s on his last legs, this might be his final contract…so, drive the price up if you want by talking about other teams, but he’ll get a nice offer to return and he will.

What if this is all just a genius plot cooked up by Brady and Belichick to force the QB trade market to wait longer to see if teams can get Brady…make them wait, hope for a few weeks/months and thus delaying other competitors to trade for QBs (like Rivers or Stafford or whomever) so they don’t have as much time to get them acquired and integrated into their new system?

Just a theory…I’m sure it’s wrong. The Patriots would never do anything devious or slick…

-- Looking for my XFL coverage? You’ll have to look in vain, because it’s not happening from me.

I’m not wasting my time on that league. Connor Cook is being advertised to catch my attention on watching…really? I’ve scouted many of those players over the years. I know who they are. I’ll check the box scores and see how some old faves are doing. If any talent re-enters the NFL and I need to see their recent work, I’ll go scout it specifically…like I do with CFL signees of note. I don’t have time to crowd my mind with more info/football play that doesn’t matter to the NFL/fantasy.

I don’t do fantasy baseball, or basketball, or really watch the NCAA March Madness anymore, or have a life other than NFL-related things. I’m trying to have an edge of information with the NFL, for fantasy – and there’s not enough time in a year to do all that I want as it is…so, I’m definitely not giving the XFL any attention until I have to.

Hopefully, the league survives and gives looked-past players a chance to shine and get back to the NFL…like an American version of the CFL. However, I have a feeling the XFL is dead by the end of 2021…no one wants this product no matter how much money and marketing they throw at it.

2020 Dynasty Offseason/Best Ball Subscriptions Now Available

It’s time for season #2 of our last season’s debut subscription…Dynasty Offseason/Best Ball.

I created Dynasty offseason as a way to communicate rankings/valuations on (500+) existing players (and also 400+ IDPs) for Dynasty and Keeper planning purposes (trades, etc.) as well as getting the jump on Best Ball/MFL drafts that begin in February and run all the rest of the year.

The fastest growing success percentage/money earning with FFM scouting/rankings/etc. is in those Best Ball/MFLs – draft a deep roster and forget it until the season begins, and then just watch the results…no lineup settings, no trading. Just pay to compete, out-draft everyone else, and try and cash in on our early/better read on things.

Dynasty Offseason subscriptions will be available when College Football Metrics begins (1/3/20), and you can purchase as a combo or just individually the one you want/need. However, the Dynasty Offseason rankings, etc., will not kickoff until right after the Super Bowl (articles and reports will post in January but player rankings/mock drafts not until past the Super Bowl)…and then we pile in material daily/weekly until opening day of the new NFL season.

If you were not a part of the Dynasty Offseason program last year, I will have more details on it on my playoff game recaps in 2020 and some additional explanation on Best Ball/MFL leagues, how to get started in them, how they work, etc. – if you’re not doing Best Ball/MFLs…you are missing out.
