2020 Offseason Moves ‘Tournament’ (AFC East)

2020 Offseason Moves ‘Tournament’ (AFC East)

This year, for judging the offseason, now that we are through the bulk of free agency (and pre-Draft), we’re going to rank the team’s offseason moves within their divisions #1 (best) through #4 (worst). One division each day.

The best team (in our judgement) moving on to the final four of their conference, where we’ll rank those winners until we get to the final two (the Super Bowl matchup of the offseason moves) and then crowning one ‘the best’ team of the offseason…and the same finding single ‘worst’ team of the offseason.

Looking at each team’s adds and losses together in one spot is often eye opening on just what certain teams really accomplished for the upcoming season. We’ll rank them and add some positive or mocking commentary all the way through...there are some teams that…that…I have no idea what they are doing.

And we’re looking at JUST the impact to 2020’s chase – 2021 draft picks or contract logic doesn’t matter. We’re just looking at a +/- player or talent impact to the 2020 cause.

Today we look at: the AFC East

Key adds: Byron Jones, Kyle Van Noy, Shaq Lawson, Ereck Flowers, Emmanuel Ogbah

Key losses: Reshad Jones

Net pos./neg./neutral: POSITIVE impact.

Commentary: The Dolphins are definitely in the running for the best offseason of 2020…in part, because they had nowhere to go but up. Miami did basically the opposite of New England – anti-gutting. They added a bunch of talent, spent a bunch of money, and had already lost/traded/gutted everyone last season.

Key adds: Stefon Diggs, A.J. Klein, Tyler Matakevich, Vernon Butler, Quinton Jefferson, Josh Norman, Daryl Williams

Key losses: 1st-Rnd pick (#22), Jordan Phillips, Frank Gore, Shaq Lawson

Net pos./neg./neutral: POSITIVE impact.

Commentary: Butler-Jefferson adds were a smart, cheap way to plug up the loss of DT Jordan Phillips. Klein-Matakevich are ‘Buffalo’ type players to add to the linebacker/special teams. Diggs is better, for now/2020, than whatever WR they could’ve drafted at #22. If Josh Norman has anything to offer…the Bills took another step forward this offseason, under the radar…and the Diggs acquisition was good/nice but a bit overrated.

Key adds: Connor McGovern, George Fant, Breshad Perriman, Pierre Desir, Patrick Onwuasor

Key losses: Darryl Roberts, Robby Anderson, Brandon Copeland

Net pos./neg./neutral: POSITIVE impact.

Commentary: …but not much positive impact. How can the Jets be so bad and still be sitting on so much cap space and literally add nothing net in talent in the offseason? NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY HERE. The Jets added a couple decent O-Lineman for help/depth and otherwise spun their wheels.

Key adds: Adrian Phillips, Brian Hoyer, Brandon Copeland

Key losses: Tom Brady, Kyle Van Noy, Jamie Collins, Stephen Gostkowski, Duron Harmon, Phillip Dorsett, Elandon Roberts

Net pos./neg./neutral: NEGATIVE impact

Commentary: How can it not be negative? I mean…they basically gutted a chunk of the ‘old regime’. However, it was necessary and it will be looked back on as the right thing to do at the right time but looking at just 2020 impact today – the Patriots are certainly not a better team yet with all the changes. If Brady flops and New England wins the AFC East in 2020 for the thousandth time in a row…Belichick is literally a football god.

-- Miami goes on to our AFC Final Four grouping to compete for best offseason, and New England goes on to the Final Four loser’s bracket for worst offseason.

2020 Dynasty Offseason/Best Ball Reports and Rankings Are Constantly Adjusting To All The Changes!

It’s time for season #2 of our last season’s debut subscription…Dynasty Offseason/Best Ball.

I created Dynasty offseason as a way to communicate rankings/valuations on (500+) existing players (and also 400+ IDPs) for Dynasty and Keeper planning purposes (trades, etc.) as well as getting the jump on Best Ball/MFL drafts that begin in February and run all the rest of the year.

The fastest growing success percentage/money earning with FFM scouting/rankings/etc. is in those Best Ball/MFLs – draft a deep roster and forget it until the season begins, and then just watch the results…no lineup settings, no trading. Just pay to compete, out-draft everyone else, and try and cash in on our early/better read on things.

Dynasty Offseason subscriptions will be available when College Football Metrics begins (1/3/20), and you can purchase as a combo or just individually the one you want/need. However, the Dynasty Offseason rankings, etc., will not kickoff until right after the Super Bowl (articles and reports will post in January but player rankings/mock drafts not until past the Super Bowl)…and then we pile in material daily/weekly until opening day of the new NFL season.

If you were not a part of the Dynasty Offseason program last year, I will have more details on it on my playoff game recaps in 2020 and some additional explanation on Best Ball/MFL leagues, how to get started in them, how they work, etc. – if you’re not doing Best Ball/MFLs…you are missing out.
