2020 Offseason Moves ‘Tournament’ (AFC Final Four 'Loser's Bracket')

2020 Offseason Moves ‘Tournament’ (AFC Final Four 'Loser's Bracket')

This year, for judging the offseason, now that we are through the bulk of free agency (and pre-Draft), we’re going to rank the team’s offseason moves within their divisions #1 (best) through #4 (worst). One division each day.

The best team (in our judgement) moving on to the final four of their conference, where we’ll rank those winners until we get to the final two (the Super Bowl matchup of the offseason moves) and then crowning one ‘the best’ team of the offseason…and the same finding single ‘worst’ team of the offseason.

Looking at each team’s adds and losses together in one spot is often eye opening on just what certain teams really accomplished for the upcoming season. We’ll rank them and add some positive or mocking commentary all the way through...there are some teams that…that…I have no idea what they are doing.

And we’re looking at JUST the impact to 2020’s chase – 2021 draft picks or contract logic doesn’t matter. We’re just looking at a +/- player or talent impact to the 2020 cause.

Today we look at: the AFC FINAL FOUR ‘Loser’s Bracket’

AFC FINAL FOUR ‘Loser’s Bracket’

Key adds: Adrian Phillips, Brian Hoyer, Brandon Copeland

Key losses: Tom Brady, Kyle Van Noy, Jamie Collins, Stephen Gostkowski, Duron Harmon, Phillip Dorsett, Elandon Roberts

Net pos./neg./neutral: NEGATIVE impact

Commentary: How can it not be negative? I mean…they basically gutted a chunk of the ‘old regime’. However, it was necessary and it will be looked back on as the right thing to do at the right time but looking at just 2020 impact today – the Patriots are certainly not a better team yet with all the changes. If Brady flops and New England wins the AFC East in 2020 for the thousandth time in a row…Belichick is literally a football god.

Key adds: Joe Schobert, Rashaan Melvin, Tyler Eifert, #118 draft pick, #140 draft pick, #170 draft pick

Key losses: Nick Foles, Calais Campbell, A.J. Bouye

Net pos./neg./neutral: NEGATIVE impact

Commentary: The Jags clearly made sweeping rebuilding moves…three all-star level players from the past 1-3 years were booted to acquire three middle round draft picks. It’s brilliant for a rebuild, but just judging 2020…this is a massive step back.

Key adds: Eric Ebron, Chris Wormley

Key losses: Javon Hargrave, Tyler Matakevich, Sean Davis, B.J. Finney

Net pos./neg./neutral: NEGATIVE impact

Commentary: This is a virtual disaster, when you consider the Steelers are trying to keep up with/catch the Ravens – losing Javon Hardgrave and Sean Davis is not helping that effort…it’s a huge hit/a big step back.

A big step back overall when you also consider adding Eric Ebron was ‘the big move’, which is a joke.

Key adds: none

Key losses: Kendall Fuller, Emmanuel Ogbah

Net pos./neg./neutral: NEGATIVE

Commentary: Didn’t add anything of note…but lost a couple useful players. Not a terrible hit but has to be judged as ‘negative’ in and of itself.

-- Looking at the worst teams from each AFC division, it’s clear that Kansas City isn’t even close to NE-JAX-PIT in this race. And while the Steelers definitely took a hit…they were not ravished like the Patriots or Jaguars.

So why the Patriots over the Jags?

It’s closer than you think. I know ‘Brady’, but consider the Jags lost their top remaining corner and a big-name defensive end along with a starter-level QB as well. I know Foles wasn’t likely to start, but he still has talent. His crime last year was getting his collarbone broken, not a lack of ability.

However, Brady is better than Foles (you know I am pained to write that sentence…even though when they met in the Super Bowl, you see what happened). Van Noy-Collins are pretty big losses. Both teams lost major talent, even if it’s getting past its prime…but the Jags added some things and picks that help them rebuild. The Patriots have done almost nothing of note in the rebuild department so far.

Both the Jags and Pats got worse for 2020 – but New England more devastated. The Pats move on to a Super Bowl they aren’t used to…the Super Bowl of our ‘Loser’s bracket’ in this offseason tourney.

2020 Dynasty Offseason/Best Ball Reports and Rankings Are Constantly Adjusting To All The Changes!

It’s time for season #2 of our last season’s debut subscription…Dynasty Offseason/Best Ball.

I created Dynasty offseason as a way to communicate rankings/valuations on (500+) existing players (and also 400+ IDPs) for Dynasty and Keeper planning purposes (trades, etc.) as well as getting the jump on Best Ball/MFL drafts that begin in February and run all the rest of the year.

The fastest growing success percentage/money earning with FFM scouting/rankings/etc. is in those Best Ball/MFLs – draft a deep roster and forget it until the season begins, and then just watch the results…no lineup settings, no trading. Just pay to compete, out-draft everyone else, and try and cash in on our early/better read on things.

Dynasty Offseason subscriptions will be available when College Football Metrics begins (1/3/20), and you can purchase as a combo or just individually the one you want/need. However, the Dynasty Offseason rankings, etc., will not kickoff until right after the Super Bowl (articles and reports will post in January but player rankings/mock drafts not until past the Super Bowl)…and then we pile in material daily/weekly until opening day of the new NFL season.

If you were not a part of the Dynasty Offseason program last year, I will have more details on it on my playoff game recaps in 2020 and some additional explanation on Best Ball/MFL leagues, how to get started in them, how they work, etc. – if you’re not doing Best Ball/MFLs…you are missing out.
