2020 Offseason Moves ‘Tournament’ (NFC West)
This year, for judging the offseason, now that we are through the bulk of free agency (and pre-Draft), we’re going to rank the team’s offseason moves within their divisions #1 (best) through #4 (worst). One division each day.
The best team (in our judgement) moving on to the final four of their conference, where we’ll rank those winners until we get to the final two (the Super Bowl matchup of the offseason moves) and then crowning one ‘the best’ team of the offseason…and the same finding single ‘worst’ team of the offseason.
Looking at each team’s adds and losses together in one spot is often eye opening on just what certain teams really accomplished for the upcoming season. We’ll rank them and add some positive or mocking commentary all the way through...there are some teams that…that…I have no idea what they are doing.
And we’re looking at JUST the impact to 2020’s chase – 2021 draft picks or contract logic doesn’t matter. We’re just looking at a +/- player or talent impact to the 2020 cause.
Today we look at: the NFC West
1) ARIZONA CARDINALS
Key adds: DeAndre Hopkins, Jordan Phillips, Devon Kennard, DeVondre Campbell, Pick #131
Key losses: David Johnson, Pick #40, Rodney Gunter, Zach Kerr
Net pos./neg./neutral: POSITIVE
Commentary: I love David Johnson, but DeAndre Hopkins is more critical in 2020…I think DJ could be more important and I think Hopkins is going to get big money and be a bad deal as we go, but for now Hopkins matters to Arizona than DJ. Losing pick #40 kinda bring that whole deal to a neutral impact for 2020.
The rest of the moves are a ‘plus’ – Jordan Phillips can be really good, if he doesn’t get lazy with the money. Campbell is solid. Pick #131 is handy. Arizona is better for 2020 after all their moves so far.
2) SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
Key adds: Quinton Dunbar, Brandon Shell, B.J. Finney, Greg Olsen, Jordan Reed, Phillip Dorsett
Key losses: George Fant, Quinton Jefferson, Jadeveon Clowney?, Pick #162
Net pos./neg./neutral: NEUTRAL/POSITIVE
Commentary: I’m assuming Clowney is not returning…and he’s not that big a deal if he does/doesn’t. Overpriced, overrated time bomb for whatever team pays him.
I am a huge Quinton Dunbar fan…his cheap acquisition sets the tone, but then a lot of effort into old tight ends and losing a decent Fant plus Jefferson. The Dunbar acquisition saves the offseason.
3) SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
Key adds: #13 pick
Key losses: DeForest Buckner, Emmanuel Sanders, Levine Toilolo
Net pos./neg./neutral: NEGATIVE
Commentary: In the long run, the 49ers may be fine but losing Buckner for 2020 and hoping the #13 works out better for 2020 is a tall ask. Not devastatingly negative, but negative impact for 2020 talent +/- for the 49ers.
4) L.A. RAMS
Key adds: A’Shawn Robinson, Leonard Floyd
Key losses: Dante Fowler, Cory Littleton, Greg Zuerlein, Todd Gurley, Clay Matthews, Nickell Robey-Coleman
Net pos./neg./neutral: NEGATIVE
Commentary: Losing Littleton and Zuerlein is big. Fowler and Gurley made sense, but still hurts. Their answer…sign overrated bust D-Lineman to silly deals! My, how fast the Rams have fallen out of favor.
-- Arizona is the pretty clear winner of the NFC West offseason judgement…and they move on to the NFC Final Four. The plummeting Rams go on to represent the NFC West in the loser’s bracket Final Four.
2020 Dynasty Offseason/Best Ball Reports and Rankings Are Constantly Adjusting To All The Changes!
It’s time for season #2 of our last season’s debut subscription…Dynasty Offseason/Best Ball.
I created Dynasty offseason as a way to communicate rankings/valuations on (500+) existing players (and also 400+ IDPs) for Dynasty and Keeper planning purposes (trades, etc.) as well as getting the jump on Best Ball/MFL drafts that begin in February and run all the rest of the year.
The fastest growing success percentage/money earning with FFM scouting/rankings/etc. is in those Best Ball/MFLs – draft a deep roster and forget it until the season begins, and then just watch the results…no lineup settings, no trading. Just pay to compete, out-draft everyone else, and try and cash in on our early/better read on things.
Dynasty Offseason subscriptions will be available when College Football Metrics begins (1/3/20), and you can purchase as a combo or just individually the one you want/need. However, the Dynasty Offseason rankings, etc., will not kickoff until right after the Super Bowl (articles and reports will post in January but player rankings/mock drafts not until past the Super Bowl)…and then we pile in material daily/weekly until opening day of the new NFL season.
If you were not a part of the Dynasty Offseason program last year, I will have more details on it on my playoff game recaps in 2020 and some additional explanation on Best Ball/MFL leagues, how to get started in them, how they work, etc. – if you’re not doing Best Ball/MFLs…you are missing out.
