2021 Offseason Personnel Moves Tournament – NFC East

(Same intro everyday) We’re going to have a dailyseries (11 days) taking a look at the offseason moves for all the NFL teams –looking at the key adds and losses in personnel this offseason 2021 (whetherfree agent, draft, or trade).

I like to list out the key adds next to the key losses andjust look at the lists for each team and see what their thinking was and if allthe maneuvering made them better…or worse…or A LOT better…or A LOT worse – tohelp me digest the offseason impact to Fantasy performance and to over/underwin total handicapping. So, we’re doing that with this series and having somefun with our research…pitting the teams in a tournament style format andevaluating who had the better offseason moves…with the winner advancing onuntil we have just one winning team of ‘best offseason’.

This season, we're looking at free agency and trades PLUSkey draft picks (according to CFM/us)…and it’s not just me (RC) making the callon ‘who wins’ – a three person committee will vote (and provide commentary totheir vote) and the majority vote winner moves on. RC + FFM analyst Ross Jacobs+ The Computer (an RC program designed to try to evaluate the moves by talentand positional importance, etc.) – I (RC) pick my winner before I see what TheComputer thinks, for fairness. RC and Ross make their choices without knowingwhat the other picked as well.

We’ll look at a division a day and declare a divisionalwinner, then the AFC and NFC finals and then a Final 2/Super Bowl to declare anoverall offseason 2021 winner.

Here we go…

FT vs. Eagles…

WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM

Key Personnel Adds: QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (FA), WRCurtis Samuel (FA), CB William Jackson (FA), CB Darryl Roberts (FA), OT CharlesLeno (FA), OT Sam Cosmi (draft), TE Sammis Reyes (FA), LB Jamin Davis (draft),CB Benjamin St. Juste (draft)

Key Personnel Losses: CB Ronald Darby (FA), LB KevinPierre-Louis (FA), CB Fabian Moreau (FA), OT Morgan Moses (cut), OT EreckFlowers (traded), QB Alex Smith (retired), DE Ryan Kerrigan (FA), LB ThomasDavis (cut)

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

Key Personnel Adds: FS Anthony Harris (FA), QB Joe Flacco(FA), LB Eric Wilson (FA), QB Nick Mullens (FA), WR DeVonta Smith (draft), DERyan Kerrigan (FA), RB Jordan Howard (FA), RB Kerryon Johnson (FA), C LandonDickerson (draft)

Key Personnel Losses: LB Nate Gerry (FA), DT Malik Jackson(cut), OT Jason Peters (FA), CB Jalen Mills (FA), WR Alshon Jeffery (cut), QBCarson Wentz (traded)

RC: QB upgrade. Ace WR add (CSam). Solid CB added(WJax)…just those three things alone are massive. All the other items are +/-window dressing. When an NFL teams improves at QB and CB, they are smart. WRsare plentiful but they stole one of the best WRs in the NFL for a low cost.Cosmi is a great add to the O-Line, one of our top 20 players in the draft theygot 2nd-round. An already emerging team got better where they needed to.

I like the Eagles adding Eric Wilson cheap and ifrookie OC Landon Dickerson is healthy, he’s a top 20 player from this draftthey outright stole. Wentz was addition by subtraction.

WINNER: Washington. The Eagles didn’t get radicallybetter or worse, but Washington definitely got better – I go with Washington.

ROSS: Philly added a few legit players thisoff-season, most notably Smith and Dickerson in the draft and the foreverunderrated Eric Wilson, and they didn't lose much. Future Hall of Fametackle Jason Peters finally ran out of gas, but everyone else wasexpendable. The expectation for many is that going from Wentz to Hurts is adowngrade, but in reality it's most likely an upgrade. This was a decentoff-season from a team that needed it, but they can't compete with whatWashington pulled off.

This is one of my favorite off-seasons this year and a bigreason why they are NFC East favorites. Washington dumped mostly uselessplayers and added back in a slew of sneaky good players. Samuel and Jacksonwere likely the two best players at their positions. Roberts and Leno areserviceable players at key spots. Fitzpatrick should be good enough to not holdback the rest of the team. Reyes is an international basketball player turnedTE and an athletic freak, precisely the type of guy teams should be stashing onthe bottom of their rosters. And finally, the draft brought arguably the bestavailable tackle in Cosmi, an intriguing athlete in LB Davis, and the verysolid St. Juste at corner. Washington looks like a very well-balanced anddangerous team. Love their moves all the way around. They could win this wholething. WINNER = Washington.

THE COMPUTERWinner = Washington 61%/39%

Washington advances (3-0) to the NFC East finals.

================================================

NEW YORK GIANTS

Key Personnel Adds: CB Aaron Robinson (draft), WRKadarius Toney (draft), CB Adoree' Jackson (FA), WR Kenny Golladay (FA), QBMike Glennon (FA), RB Devontae Booker (FA), OT Nate Solder (reinstated), DTDanny Shelton (FA), TE Kyle Rudolph (FA)

Key Personnel Losses: Dalvin Tomlinson (FA), G KevinZeitler (cut), WR Golden Tate (cut), LB David Mayo (cut), LB Kyle Fackrell (FA)

DALLAS COWBOYS

Key Personnel Adds: LB Micah Parsons (draft), S Keanu Neal(FA), DE Tarell Basham (FA), S Damontae Kazee (FA), CB Nahshon Wright (Draft),CB Kelvin Joseph (Draft), LB Jabril Cox (draft), DT Osa Odighizuwa (Draft)

Key Personnel Losses: LB Sean Lee (retired), QB Andy Dalton(FA), CB Chidobe Awuzie (FA), S Xavier Woods (FA), DE Aldon Smith (FA)

RC: The Giants added CB firepower this offseason, andshaky everything else. Adoree and rookie ARob can start Week 1. NYG got muchbetter at corner, and they were already pretty good prior. It’s their lonesuperpower – defensive backfield. Kenny Golladay is a huge get, but nothaving a QB that can throw it to him effectively negates how important it was.Losing Dalvin Tomlinson was a low-key huge hit, but they should be ableto afford it.

Dallas didn’t have a ton of +/-. Adding Parsons is major –possibly the #1-2-3 best player in the draft. Outside of that not a lot ofimpact either way.

WINNER = NY Giants. Nothing against the Dallas’soffseason but NYG may have added two ace CBs and that is a critical position tobe great at. A great linebacker is nice, but I’d rather have great corners bychoice.

ROSS: The Cowboys had a decent off-season adding afew new starters on defense, but they also lost a couple of good players soit's mostly a wash. I'm interested to see how Basham does this year as Inoticed him flashing a lot for the Jets in 2020. The draft is where they reallydid well bringing in elite linebacker Micah Parsons and a host of otherunder the radar picks. While all those draft picks are interesting though it'shard to say if they will make much of an impact in year 1.

The Giants added a few high impact guys in Jackson,Golladay, and Robinson. Toney has a ton of potential, Glennon and Booker aresolid backups, Shelton replaces departed Dalvin Tomlinson, and they evenget OT Nate Solder back from his year off. Dallas had a good draft, butNew York's wasn't half bad either. I have to give the slight edge to New York, but it's closer than I anticipated. WINNER = NY Giants

THE COMPUTERWinner = NYG 60%/40%

The NY Giants move on (3-0) to the NFC East finals.

---NFC EAST FINALS---

WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM

Key Personnel Adds: QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (FA), WRCurtis Samuel (FA), CB William Jackson (FA), CB Darryl Roberts (FA), OT CharlesLeno (FA), OT Sam Cosmi (draft), TE Sammis Reyes (FA), LB Jamin Davis (draft),CB Benjamin St. Juste (draft)

Key Personnel Losses: CB Ronald Darby (FA), LB KevinPierre-Louis (FA), CB Fabian Moreau (FA), OT Morgan Moses (cut), OT EreckFlowers (traded), QB Alex Smith (retired), DE Ryan Kerrigan (FA), LB ThomasDavis (cut)

Key Personnel Losses: Dalvin Tomlinson (FA), G KevinZeitler (cut), WR Golden Tate (cut), LB David Mayo (cut), LB Kyle Fackrell (FA)

RC: The main thing holding back either of these teamsgoing into 2021 was their QB situation. Washington added a very solid RyanFitzpatrick and NYG stuck by turnover machine Daniel Jones…thatalone, gives Washington the win here.

Now, I like that the Giants added two killer corners –Robinson and Jackson. But Washington countered with landing the biggest FA CBprize in William Jackson.

The NYG WR adds are fine, but without a QB it’s kindameaningless. I’d rather have Curtis Samuel at his price than Golladay athis.

Everything favors Washington here. WINNER = Washington.

ROSS: To me this is an easy win for Washington. NewYork hit on some good players, especially at CB, but outside of that theydidn't really improve a whole lot and they did nothing to solve their DanielJones problem. Washington, meanwhile, added a top WR, three reallygood corners, a starting QB, the most athletic OT in the draft, a very athleticLB, and an off-the-charts freak athlete TE to develop. It's really no contest.Washington put together a fantastic off-season and really improved their teamin a variety of ways. They are the clear winner in the NFC East. WINNER =Washington.

THE COMPUTER: Winner = Washington 67%/33%

The Washington F.T. advances (3-0) to the NFC Final Four.
