Dynasty-Fantasy Football Offseason Notes + Amazon + Irritations (7/11/2019)

Throughout July and through the preseason, we’ll be dropping Dynasty-Fantasy notes every few days as we have some things of interest, rumors, etc., to talk about.

*For this next 10 days, pre-training camps getting started, I’ll have a special version of ‘daily notes’ – a player/team note or two I have to share, PLUS a special top 10 things I bought off Amazon this year, PLUS one ‘things that irritate me’ note (an ever-popular annual feature).*

…then, it’s time to great ready for (fantasy) football!!

*Writing them on the fly, forgive any errors…

-- Did you see the interview notes from Bengals pass rusher Carl Lawson? The one where he said Aaron Rodgers is the easiest QB to sack in the NFL?

He was kinda giving praise, in a sense, (Rodgers is comfortable holding the ball in a deep drop waiting to throw and doesn’t get flustered by sacks often) but it also made me think about a few things…

First, was it true? I know Rodgers gets sacked a lot, but did you know the Packers are one of two teams in the top five for ‘Most sacked teams in the NFL’ the past two seasons? They were #3 in 2018, #5 in 2017 (and Rodgers missed half a season). Do you know the QB/team that gets sacked more often? Answer at the end of this section.

Then it made me consider…Rodgers has been a touch fragile of late, and taking excessive hits isn’t helping. Missed half+ of 2017 season. Looked like his knee was done Week 1 last season but limped through the season. Do we need to keep downgrading his dynasty and redraft value – because he’s aging and taking a lot of hits?

Then it made me consider…is new HC Matt LaFleur trying to re-do the offense/passing game counter to Rodgers normal instincts to solve the sack issue? But by doing this – is he messing with Rodgers’ gift to solve an issue that seems like an issue but really isn’t (which NFL teams are notorious doing…fixing something that creates a bigger problem in another area)?

Rodgers was 2-5-1 in games he was sacked 4 or more times last year. Seems like an issue…except the team was awful all year. In 2016-2017, Rodgers was 5-2 in games he was sacked 4 or more times.

Last season, in that 2-5-1 record with 4 or more times sacked…Rodgers threw 13 TDs/1 INT…and 7 TDs/2 INTs in 2017, getting sacked 4 or more times. 7 TDs/3 INTs in 2016.

Is Green Bay better letting Rodgers be Rodgers, you take a few sacks but reap all his other benefits? Or do you try to coach it out of him and hope a quicker passing game takes him to another level? Can you teach an old Aaron Rodgers new tricks?

It doesn’t seem like Rodgers is too hyped up on the idea, so far. You wouldn’t be either. Imagine being the top salesperson in your company for a decade+ and then a new sales manager, who is a rookie at managing at this level, and who has no track record of real sales experience himself…imagine that new manager comes in and tells you he’s changing your sales style and methods because he knows better than you.

We would be livid and want to leave the company for another if that scenario happened. However, in the NFL…everyone will rush to brand Rodgers as an uncoachable baby who needs to listen to coach. Shouldn’t the coach listen to Rodgers? That’s not how it works in the NFL…or most corporations. I’ve seen it happen that way 99% of the time in my corporate life. It usually ends with an unhappy, longtime producer who starts battling the boss, then mailing it in and looking for other opportunities.

I’m not as hyped about the Green Bay changes as I was at first blush.

*Deshaun Watson…81 sacks against in 23 games played the past two years (Rodgers 71 sacks in 23 games played the past two season). Houston #1 (2018) and #2 (2017) in sacks allowed the past two seasons.

 -- Coming up on FFM…

Next week (7/15) we’ll be reviewing Hard Knocks 2018 Cleveland – NFL Network is running the whole series on Friday 7/12 (I think), so set your DVR if you want to play along.

The following week (7/22) we’ll be reviewing Amazon’s new All Or Nothing with the Carolina Panthers. Amazon releases that like 7/19, the whole series at once, I do believe.

 -- Irritation of the day…

An irritation, and some money savings possibly for you – to spend on FFM/CFM, if you desire!!

My DirecTV is the worst. It has gone from ‘the best’ to ‘the worst’. Ahead of its time years ago, now all technologies are improving rapidly…and yet DTV is getting worse.

They put in their wireless system a year ago, for free, in my house – and it’s not worked since day-two of having it. I get TV but I cannot access OnDemand stuff because their ‘bridge’ is set to be the least dominant fighter for Wi-Fi space (as it was explained to me). So, it constantly disconnects to allow other Wi-Fi items to connect. I got a lot of wireless items, and they all work great and I have the highest speed internet in like the U.S., but my DirectTV cannot connect stably. They’ve checked/tried to fix it twice and have no answers.

Rainstorm coming? DirecTV service is going out for a bit – always happens when something key is recording on the DVR.

I’d dump DTV in a hot second, but I gotta have the NFL Sunday Ticket, obviously. It’s costing me a lot of money and aggravation to be stuck with DTV.

Two positives within this…

1) The NFL can opt-out early from their contract with DirectTV by giving them notice this year and free to go with whomever in 2020+. They are currently talking with Amazon, Google, ESPN, etc., to stream Sunday Ticket without being chained to DirecTV’s programming packages. I want to cut my cord, but my DirectTV cord is made of solid steel.

PLEASE NFL bail on AT&T/DTV!

2) Tip for you DTV owners…

My programming package had ballooned to $140+ per month for like the middle best of their five or so programming packages. Every summer, I make a reminder to complain to DTV to try to get money knocked off my bill…by threatening to leave/cord cut. It usually gets me $10-15 off a month or some free upgrade.

I did that again last week, and well…note the DirecTV is getting killed right now on all fronts – people are leaving them in droves just because ‘Cord Cutting’ and now they’ve currently lost local programming (NBC, CBS, ABC, etc.) in some cities in a dispute – so you can’t watch local channels and people are pissed. So, the other day, I went onto my account and used the ‘Chat’ (online) function and talked about making a change and seeing what they could do for me…$45+ a month drop before I could even press the issue. I think they’re so under the gun right now that if you online chat and ask, they will drop your price without changing/adding to your contract.

Let my irritation be a gift to you, and if you save good money smacking DTV around for five minutes – consider it a special discount off FFM/CFM services! Just another way we make you money at FFM!! We try to ‘pay for ourselves’ for our services – one way or the other, no net cost but a net gain with FFM!!!

-- Amazon Prime Days are on July 15-16th, in anticipation of that…and to promote our Amazon affiliate program that takes you 30-seconds or less to use/set up and changes nothing on your experience but means a lot to us (details below), I am counting down my top 10 purchases off Amazon, so far, in 2019. So many have been asking if I would be doing this again in 2019…here I am to make your life better once again.

I feel like I spend as much time scouting Amazon as I do football players. I’m on a constant quest to save time and money, but mostly to make my life better – and while Amazon taking over the world’s economy is likely the death of us all, it’s good for us now…and that’s all that really matters, right? I’ll let my kids fight The Terminator/SkyNet 20-30 years from now.

Here are my Top 10 items off Amazon, so far this year…

Amazon #5) Sun Joe Power Washer + Hose + App to track

Even if you are not having to maintain a property (and lucky you for not having to), there’s something for you to consider in my #5 item…

I finally broke down and got a power washer…after a year+ of wanting one. I thought they’d be super expensive and/or never really thought I’d want/need one…but I should have known Amazon would save the day.

I researched multiple power washers, and thus I started getting ‘suggestions’ in my Amazon (and everywhere else) for power washers. I read the reviews, compared models and power levels – and settled upon one and I put it in a wish list. Within a week, that same unit was the Amazon ‘Deal of the day’. So, I pulled the trigger at around $100 on what was normally $130-150+.

Because I’m not handy at all and don’t read directions well, it took me 10-15 minutes to figure out how to use it. I have a nice, lengthy, outdoor purpose extension cord to power up the unit. I just needed a hose to hook to it…and then I remembered someone ran over the head of ours with the lawnmower last year, so then I had to go get one to use my new power washer. Got a good deal on a 100ft flexible hose…off Amazon.

Finally, with all the pieces in place, I hooked up the power…I hooked up the hose/water supply…squeezed the trigger…and nothing but a useless, powerless dribble/stream. I was so mad. I knew I bought a lemon. Just my luck! Oh, wait…didn’t read the instructions…I forgot to put the nozzle (five options) attachment on the end of the gun. Put it on, pulled the trigger, and BLAM…power washing commenced.

I’ve cleaned my siding. My concrete porch/steps. My little concrete patio in the back. I was amazed at how much debris or algae built up…as the power washer just blew it all away. Everything looked brand new when I was done. I was amazed. My wife and kids were amazed. My neighbor was amazed. An older couple in the neighborhood we help…they were amazed when I power washed their house and concrete too.

If you have a house to take care of, this highly rated model (item: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CPGMUXW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) is a boss and might amaze you as well. Make sure you have the access to power/outdoor/all-weather power cord to get to where you need to. And same for the hose connection.

Note, I got a great price on this item (and many other items) thanks to the ‘Pricepulse’ App on my cellphone.

Pricepulse tracks all Amazon items and shows you the average/high/low price of any product, the price history, and allows you to set alerts when a price changes to/below your targeted amount – it sends you a notification. If you ever wanted to know if a price/item was a good deal – the App will tell you/give you the research in a flash. You can track items and set alerts to your heart’s desire. My Amazon items #3-4-5 were all purchased 30-50% off normal price because I was waiting for the blessing of the discount via waiting for this App to tell me when -- so I didn’t have to keep checking it all the time or get lucky. I knew my pricing, I just sat back and waited on my wish list items to hit a great deal.

Use it to save money, or just know the price today is about as good as it gets – be an informed shopper of Amazon! Use it to your advantage!!
