Katz: The Titans have been winning games ugly. So have the Steelers.
RC: The Computer says Steelers by 5.4 but a very nervous projection. Mariota is ‘back’ and being sold and may be too good to consider laying -7.0 too. He’s the better QB than Ben now. Steelers at home are so good, but I have a funny feeling that the Titans are making a move.
In the Titans last 10 game where Mariota started and finished the game, Tennessee is 9-1. Beating DEN last year when they were still viable. Beating KC at KC in the freezing cold late last year (and then Mariota got hurt and lost for season next game). Stomping JAX and SEA earlier this year.
Are the Titans secretly great?
Katz: I feel like this game is going to start and my reaction will be "Yep. Of course" no matter what happens. The Steelers will either come out and stomp Mariota, dominating defensively while looking like vintage Steelers on offense. Or the Steelers will come out flat, struggle to move the ball and get beat up on by Mariota. Either way, it won't surprise me. Given that's how I feel, I guess I'm taking the seven points.
Savage: When are the Titans going to learn from all the Mariota injuries and start protecting him like the asset he is? Last week they're playing an inferior team and one that is famously physical/dirty, and I'm seeing Mariota run multiple old-school option plays and get lit up by Cincy linebackers in the process. I'm all for some designed runs, but there's a way to do that without being so reckless.
I like the Steelers because they don't have a coach trying to prove that exotic smashmouth is a thing we should care about and because their defense is much better. Definitely not putting any money on this though because the Titans have the better QB. Basically, I think the line should be 7.5 so there's a little bit of value with Pittsburgh.
Rabbitt: This one is impossible. If you are betting this you are degenerate. Therefore I am considering laying some coin on the Titans to cover. I don't think the Steelers have that killer instinct they need, and Mariota should keep the Titans in it.
Skolman: The Titans just don’t impress me...I think they might be secretly not great at all. Talent held back by bad coaching. The Steelers can turn it off enough to play close to the Colts and they can turn it on enough to whack the Titans. Put me down for back to back night game favorites.
Savage: Also worth noting that the Steelers have one of the strangest schedules I've ever seen. They've already played 6 road games and now begin a stretch of 4 straight night games, 3 of 4 at home. Being on the road that much in the early part of the season, it shouldn't be a surprise that their quality of play has been all over the map. If anything, the Steelers are the team that might be secretly great. They have a very real shot at 13-3.
Skolman: Final thought on tonight (and the thing that has me in for real money)...Jaguars said on Twitter that they are going to the Superbowl (or a tweet of the conversation with Deion...Ryan Shazier commented on that post. I think we get a big effort out of the Pit D tonight in response.
Though -7 was the right side...just a little something to push me over the edge.
RC: Memories of the Jags easy beatdown of the Steelers shouldn’t warm your betting heart. Don’t mess with the AFC South. Indy almost got them too.
Skolman: Steelers are bringing it tonight! I didn’t change my font...I believe the universe did that for effect...because it’s so true.
