RC: ‘Faux' (2.0) 2019 Computer Simulated NFL Season (Conference Finals and Super Bowl)

Date:
July 20, 2019 10:36 AM
July 31, 2019 9:52 AM

Intro: Xavier Cromartie and I did our annual post-draft, summer computer simulated seasons from each of our data, and posted that in early June 2019 (Faux 1.0). Since then, I’ve had a chance to further study the draft prospects and UDFAs, researched the teams/players/coaches for our fantasy football draft guide, and looked at each team’s personnel/salary cap situation. With more study/research, some things have changed in my team/player expectations for 2019.

With that, I give you my Faux 2.0 computer simulated season to see what might have changed on outcomes, and there are a few playoff-worthy changes to report. Like usual, each day, I’ll release three weeks of results at a time with some basic notes on things and the entire records/standings to that point.

Faux 2.0 Conference Playoffs + Super Bowl

#2 Jacksonville at #1 New England

New England wins 58% of the simulations.

This was the finals of Faux 1.0 in the AFC with the same outcome. Too much to ask for a warm-weather team to go to New England in January and be expected to win. But they do have Nick Foles, so anything is possible.

#2 New Orleans at #1 L.A. Rams

Rams win 53% of the simulations. The Rams are tough to call for a repeat trip to the Super Bowl in my simulations because the path of Dallas and New Orleans is a gauntlet again to get through in 2019-20. I love the Rams, in general, but something tells me one of Dallas or New Orleans is going to get them this season.

The Saints have to avoid being a #3 seed and having to go through Green Bay or Chicago in January to get to the Rams again.

Faux 2.0 Super Bowl:

#1 L.A. Rams vs. #1 New England

We had this Super Bowl call in Faux 1.0 last season/2018 (and then NO v. NE in Faux 2.0 in 2018), and then again in Faux 1.0 this May/June (Faux 1.0), and here again in July 2019 (Faux 2.0). Same winner as Faux 1.0 a few months ago…Patriots win 55% of the simulations.

We need to see Brady really ‘done’ and Belichick retired before I bet against them for winning it all.

We’ve never posted a Faux 3.0 in August (too much real football happening to study/report on), but I am hoping to this season…something right before the season after the preseason games, injuries, trades, etc. We’ll see if the Patriots three-peat all the 2019 simulations.
