'Rewind' 2019 Voting -- AFC East

Date:

Our ‘Rewind’ reports, for newer readers, are reports/studies where I go back and study a particular player’s entire past season…often watching/studying every play from every game from Week 1 on – and then filing a report on what I see/saw, and how that might affect his value in the future.

Why?

The ‘Rewind’ reports focus on players who either provide some level of confusion (who we thought would be better or thought they’d be a lot worse), and we want to see if their season was ‘real’. Often times, our ‘Rewind’ report exposes them as frauds. Occasionally, I find that my scouting belief was wrong…that I ‘saw wanted I wanted to see’ in-season.

We have to get these player’s scouting ‘right’. I cannot, you cannot, afford to hold onto a position on a player and be wrong. You think that’s an obvious but how often is the football community/analysts wrong on just about everything and they never apologize…or, worse, they never go try to figure out why they were wrong and report back what they missed.

I love to be ‘right’ ahead of everyone on player scouting. I built a business from nothing on my ability to do just that. However, it’s more important that I just be ‘right’. I don’t want to hold onto bad cards or invest into an Enron stock/false front player or miss out on a good player…I don’t want any of us to miss out, or we’re going to lose at fantasy and/or handicapping.

To start the process each year, I put together a list of players from each team I want to see…but then I turn it over to the audience to tell me which ones are the most important. You get to vote on it and I’ll (mostly) follow the audience response to set my ‘Rewind’ schedule by.

I will give my nominee per team, by NFL division each day. You vote. The winner from each division goes onto the Final 8 and then we vote that down to the Final 2 and then the winner – and the winning player is the first Rewind report that I do (last year Robert Woods won over then-Patriot Brandin Cooks – and our Woods report was money for 2018 FF season).

I will give my nominees and then you click the link to vote on your choice. I am using pollmaker.com, it’s free and is used by many companies for polls…and you do not need to sign up for an account, etc. Just vote and then you’ll see the current results. The polls will be open for a few days and I will reveal the winners and results after a few days that the poll was open.

I’m going to do 1-2 divisions a day as we whittle down to a winner for 2019.

First the nominees, and why…and then your chance to vote…

AFC EAST

Let’s start with the Super Bowl winner’s division.

NE = I nominate Sony Michel. I like Sony Michel, but there is a double-edge sword with him for fantasy – (1) It’s theoretically ‘awesome’ to be the Patriots lead RB for fantasy, but (2) is there really such thing as a lead RB for the Patriots? Just when you think it’s Michel…’boom’ James White has a thousand catches in a game. Is Michel just good for non-PPR? Did Michel play well or just was ‘OK’ in a great spot? Is Michel an RB1 breakout ahead…or frustrating, erratic RB2?

MIA = Kalen Ballage. I think the 2018 rookie is going to flame out in the NFL as a runner but could be a radical weapon in the passing game. Were there any clues shown for his future in the 2018 tape?

BUF = I almost went Josh Allen, but Allen is who he is…I don’t need to waste time studying it. I went with Zay Jones…a WR whom I loved coming out of the draft, then seemed doomed in Buffalo…but he actually had a helluva a 2018. Did he peak in 2018…or can he go even higher?

NYJ = Sam Darnold. There are not many QBs left in the NFL that are the easy targets for your opposing DST. Darnold, for me, is one of the worst starting QBs in the NFL…or am I going too far? I’m not expecting to see hidden greatness in my research…I want to see just how bad he was to gauge how much of a mark he is to work against in 2019...or will I see things that reel me in a bit and show that he’s better than I thought.
