Our ‘Rewind’ reports, for newer readers, are reports/studies where I go back and study a particular player’s entire past season…often watching/studying every play from every game from Week 1 on – and then filing a report on what I see/saw, and how that might affect his value in the future.
The ‘Rewind’ reports focus on players who either provide some level of confusion (who we thought would be better or thought they’d be a lot worse), and we want to see if their season was ‘real’. Often times, our ‘Rewind’ report exposes them as frauds. Occasionally, I find that my scouting belief was wrong…that I ‘saw wanted I wanted to see’ in-season.
We have to get these player’s scouting ‘right’. I cannot, you cannot, afford to hold onto a position on a player and be wrong. You think that’s an obvious but how often is the football community/analysts wrong on just about everything and they never apologize…or, worse, they never go try to figure out why they were wrong and report back what they missed.
I love to be ‘right’ ahead of everyone on player scouting. I built a business from nothing on my ability to do just that. However, it’s more important that I just be ‘right’. I don’t want to hold onto bad cards or invest into an Enron stock/false front player or miss out on a good player…I don’t want any of us to miss out, or we’re going to lose at fantasy and/or handicapping.
To start the process each year, I put together a list of players from each team I want to see…but then I turn it over to the audience to tell me which ones are the most important. You get to vote on it and I’ll (mostly) follow the audience response to set my ‘Rewind’ schedule by.
I will give my nominee per team, by NFL division each day. You vote. The winner from each division goes onto the Final 8 and then we vote that down to the Final 2 and then the winner – and the winning player is the first Rewind report that I do (last year Robert Woods won over then-Patriot Brandin Cooks – and our Woods report was money for 2018 FF season).
I will give my nominees and then you click the link to vote on your choice. I am using pollmaker.com, it’s free and is used by many companies for polls…and you do not need to sign up for an account, etc. Just vote and then you’ll see the current results. The polls will be open for a few days and I will reveal the winners and results after a few days that the poll was open.
I’m going to do 1-2 divisions a day as we whittle down to a winner for 2019.
First the nominees, and why…and then your chance to vote…
LAR = Why isn’t Brandin Cooks better for fantasy or NFL? This should have been perfect for WR1 activity in LA…like in NE…like in NO. But it never happens? Is it in hiding or is this ‘is what it is’…Cooks a perpetual WR1.5-2?
SEA = Is Rashaad Penny going to be a star? I thought I saw some real ‘it’ factor, but did I really?
SF = I want to re-look at the Dante Pettis late season run and how much upside there is…or isn’t. I think there could be WR1 gold in them thar hills.
ARI = Josh Rosen…he was not good in 2018, but how much of this was Steve Wilks (i.e. Jeff Fisher) and is there a Jared Goff-like turn just waiting to happen with his ‘Sean McVay’ (Kliff Kingsbury) coming in?

Update on the early races…
I screwed up…I put the NFC East link on the AFC West vote page. That has been corrected, but here’s the AFC West vote link as well: https://linkto.run/p/TZNASJ5H
Right now, Sony Michel and Zay Jones are neck and neck. AFC East voting still open: https://linkto.run/p/C9RYS2JO
Dallas Goedert has pulled out to a small lead in the NFC East voting. I underestimated how many FFM’ers pulled Goedert in the 2018 Dynasty Rookie Draft. It’s very close #1-4 here. Still time to cast your NFC East vote: https://linkto.run/p/F4VMNOMJ
