Week 16 Mini-Report: WR Quez Watkins, PHI v. DAL

I went back through some of the ‘of interest’ game tape/performancesfrom Week 16, took scouting notes, and am sharing some of what I saw this gameweek – with an eye on Week 17 or long-term/Dynasty/2021.

I was hoping to see more work for Watkins after his Week 15 gamewith a season high 3 catches for 40 yards and a sweet catch-and-run TD.However, Watkins only played 12 snaps in this game (DeSean Jacksonreturning here didn’t help his cause) and had just two catches.

I was hoping to share some deeper news and notes here onWatkins, a continuation of his Week 15 success…but there wasn’t enough toreally dive deep into.

My notes on Watkins from Week 16:

1) He had a 43-yard catch in the game, his long for theseason. It wasn’t all that impressive – he went deep, Hurts scrambled out of troubleand bought all kinds of time and then heaved one deep to Watkins who had brokenaway from coverage (understandable for how long the CBs tried to hold/the time Hurtscreated).

The pass was underthrown, and Watkins came back to get itand was tackled pretty quickly after the deep connection. No magical play orroute running.

2) Two of his 3 targets were on the final series when thegame was way over, and the Eagles were just throwing every play down 20 with notmuch time left. He got a catch over-the-middle of a soft zone and then Hurtstries to hit him deep on an out-and-up, but he was blocked by the CB and theplay never really developed.

3) There was no ‘moment’ or anything here to get more or lessexcited about.

It’s going to be a scouting NFL Draft season like noother – some top prospects opting out of their final college season, a uniqueschedule for CFB teams to have played, a different type of bowl season…a wholenew backdrop to scout against. An experienced, talented scouting eye is goingto rule. I have 10+ years of successful CFM scouting and analytics to lean on –I’m ready for the challenge.

I know the mainstream football analysis is going tobutcher this year’s class even worse than normal – because they are going toblindly favor big school prospects more than ever, because those schools willhave the only names they are truly familiar with, and it’s just the ‘name’ theyare familiar with not their ‘game’. They’ll ‘hive mind’ run with whatever namesthe collective seems to be buzzing about – because they don’t put in the work, they just echo things they’ve heard. I’m not saying that to be a jerk – it’s theopen window of opportunity (their failure) that I was able to build mycareer/business upon.

I spend many hours each offseason day/week/monthresearching the current class of top 100+ prospects individually as well as allthe smaller school and ‘lesser named’ prospects our computer models start toidentify. I study and compare prospect’s tape, and I input the performance data(weighted with our secret, proprietary scouting formulas) to get a firsthandfeel for it so I can analyze and test/challenge all our analytics. I get toknow these prospects on the field, statistically, and do character backgroundresearch as well -- so I can boil it down to reports so my private clients andsubscribers (from serious fantasy players, to professional handicappers, toagents, to NFL war room personnel) can know these prospects by description andstatistically – for NFL purposes, for Dynasty Rookie Draft purposes, forFantasy Best Ball/Redraft purposes in the preseason, and for handicapping andprop betting purposes.

If you love Fantasy Football, if you love the NFL Draftprocess – I guarantee you’ll never look at the process the same way again witha CFM subscription.

As the regular season football ends, a whole new seasonof football discovery begins with our ‘CFM’ subscription and study or currentand past rookies (offense and defense) – and material flows daily all offseasonJanuary to September (NFL season start), leading us to using the material toour advantage for the NFL regular season.
